As far as sound quality, the Olympus LS-100 has cleaner preamps and better-sounding built-in microphones than some of their other recorders I have used, like the LS-5, the LS-14, and the LS-P2. The LS-100's microphones are not as sensitive as those on the LS-5, but the sound is much cleaner with little noticable background hiss. When used with a dynamic microphone via the XLR inputs, the LS-100 provides plenty of gain, so the ensuing recording becomes crystal clear and clean.
The device boots up quickly, and I have had no difficulty navigating the menus for simple 1- or 2-track recordings. Every time the device is turned on, you must choose the recording function and what folder to record into, but this only takes a few seconds and no major drawback for me.
Actually, this is a 2-track recorder in the sense that you can only record up to 2 tracks at first. "Multi-track" recording is only possible in the sense that several tracks can be combined into one project. In this regard, the LS-100 is inferior to Zoom H4n, Zoom H4n Pro, Zoom H5, and Zoom H6.
I will use the recorder for vocals, sometimes with the optional remote control.
