Very pleased with this as I had looked on the internet and I've been doing some research for a while. The outcome of all this was to go for the Moog unit and the Plus version as it has the CV and Gate connections that will be useful with my collection of older analogue synthesizers.
For a new user like myself this is quite a steep learning curve so I recommend reading the documentation carefully. For example the device needs to have a true earth connection to function. If you want to play/practice with headphones then you need to have the audio out jack connected to your mixer/amp to provide an earth link even if you only want just the headphones.
Also the placement of the Theremin is critical. Furniture and objects nearby will influence the radio fields around the antennae so make sure you give it some space. I placed mine on top of a flight case with a tuner and multi effects unit in it to use with the Theremin. As the flight case has aluminium edges. This 'loaded' the volume antenna so the instrument was muted. By moving the Theremin away from the aluminium edge it worked perfectly.
These are not faults by the way but they are the way any Theremin will interact with its surroundings so if you have a very small studio space this might be an issue.
Also the spacing of the notes changes as the instrument settles down after powering up. 10 to 15 minutes seems about right.
If you want more uniform response to the note spacing and a greater range and better tone I have been looking at an upgrade that is available. The problem here is that by installing the upgrade which requires some soldering you will void the warranty. I haven't decided yet if I will do this.
The unit sounds great and I'm looking forward to mastering it. I can now reliably hit octave jumps but I'm still working on other intervals and scales. If you are thinking about buying one my view is do it. It is a lot of fun but be prepared for some hard work if you want to be any good at it! I hope I can do it, only time will tell.
hello i'm a professional musician. i'm so glad with this product. it sounds great, it's really beautiful,it has a great range of tonal waves and it reminds you another era of music maybe when electroacoustic composers tryied to change the world... i must say that is a difficult to play musical instrument if you want to play melodies but its easy for weird noises and its so fun to play... i must say that it's good to buy a volume pedal cause its dont stops making noises if you are close to it... if you want something beautiful different and primitive thats your wild cat!
