About a year ago I started to learn Bass Ukulele. I ordered a Marleaux soprano bass which when it arrived I sent straight back as whilst it is a bass it is one octave up, I was a fool. Now a year later and much more competent and skilled as a bass player I totally get what a soprano bass is, so for the second time I have bought one and it is utterly fantastic. For a lot of Ukulele music the Kala UBass is a brilliant tool and my first choice, but on the other hand a lot of the time the tonal gap between a group of soprano or concert Uke's and the deep rich thud of a Ubass is perhaps a bit too much especially on more contemporary or rock covers. This is where the soprano bass fits in. It's quality, both of construction as well sound are superb and as good as any instrument I have seen, but the best of all is the ease with which you can play it, it is a total joy to play and it fits in perfectly as an accompaniment to the Uke sound. And lastly, I discovered an octaver pedal as well as a tube style distortion pedal, this baby totally rocks, smooth and subtle to support the group or utterly mental for that odd manic moment. This is no kids toy it is Bass perfection in miniature!
