I bought this amp for small gigs and recording in my home studio. First thing I can say is that it has a warm, "old school" sound, great for rock and jazz genres. It is very loud for 100 watts and I can play gigs on small clubs, without even connecting it on the PA system. Of course this depends also on the bass and the pre-amplification, but this amp is great for this job, plenty of power and very good quality. Little heavy though! At higher gain and volume, you can tell the difference compared to more expensive amps, but everything has its limits. One of the nicest features, is the XLR DI out. Very useful for live and studio use. I have recorded bass using the DI out with excellent results. I have also recorded the cab with a mic and the sound is also very good. The only negative thing about it, was that when it arrived, there was a problem and the sound was distorted, even at low volume. I returned it to Thomann to be repaired and when it came back, everything worked as expected! Very good build quality and sound for the price.
I chose this amp when buying my first bass after reading several reviews of it and getting a great price at Thomann. I got it mainly for practice but also to hopefully deal with a band setting, and although it was a push at 100w, the combination of the great build quality, large cabinet and 15" speaker gives it a really big, deep sound for the money.
The controls are set out very nicely with a classic look, and operation is very simple. The amp looks very cool and the knobs and switches feel very solid and responsive.
The only minor negative is the weight...this is a very heavy unit to lug about but I think the sound and ease of use justifies it.
