great compact tuner
Grumpy Bassman 02.01.2022
let me admit: I'm a tuner junkie. Pitchblack, Polytune, Peterson -- I had them all.

what I like about the new Pitchblack:
1. fairly accurate for live usage (better than Polytune 3 or old Pitchblack, but not as accurate and nitpicky as Peterson). for approximate tuning the big indicator is okay, the two orange arrows that light up when you're really on spot are much more accurate then I expected
2. angled design, easy to use. why don't other tuner makers do this?
3. compact and light weight. my little board weights significantly less with a Pitchblack Advance than with my other tuner of choice.

what I really don't like:
1. well, there is kinda strobe mode, but it's a bit sub-par. thus, for setting the intonation I prefer a Peterson (or a Turbo Tuner)
2. it resets settings on power off. custom reference pitch, display mode -- they all get lost
3. the bypass notably loses treble on a passive bass. compared to true bypass in Peterson StroboStomp HD, Korg Pitchblack Advance's bypass (also advertised as true) sounds sub-par: it loses details in treble that I'm not able to get back later in the chain.

bottom line: this is the best tuner on market if you like 'needle' tuners and don't mind it's unbuffered. it's really great.

if you prefer a strobe, just get a real strobe tuner like a Peterson or a Turbo Tuner, a real strobe is something you just cannot emulate in software.

Great tuner for the money
James K. 20.05.2018
I was looking on Thomann for a floor tuner which would be muteable, I came across a few different pedals but to me this one seemed the best for many reasons.
The tuner has a switch, once pressed your instrument is muted and then you can tune the instrument, using any one of 4 different modes and if required you can also choose the frequency. The switch is one of the new "non-click" types and is very smooth and sturdy. Also a great feature not even for tuning but also for muting your instrument between songs, or in passages of songs which you don't need to play ect, or my favourite use, to mute your signal to change instruments without causing any noise.
The accuracy of the tuner in Strobe mode is more accurate than most tuners, probably more accurate than the human ear can detect, very important also is that the tuner can detect very low notes, lower than some/most other popular brands of tuners which is extremely important to me for tuning 5 string basses, even downtuning some 5 string bases to GCGCF the tuner picks up the low G extremely quickly and accurately.
The tuner is very well built and designed, don't let pictures fool you, the screen is quite large and vivid and very easy to see both in daylight and even moreso in the dark (for stage use), the chassis is thick sturdy aluminium and will take a lot of abuse.
My ONLY negatives regarding this tuner, when powering the tuner via DC power cable, the tuner does not store your settings, I set the tuner to strobe mode during use, however when I plug it out and plug back in later on the tuner is back in standard tuning mode (its easy to reset so not a big issue but important to remember if you are tuning to anything other than A=440).
Also the tuner display is mainly red/green so if you are red/green colourblind this is important to note, I believe Korg makes other very similar tuners (also sold on Thomann) which use a green/blue display instead.
Overall for the price this is a GREAT tuner.

Same as the Pitchblack but with a better display!
mighselph 23.04.2019
I've tested this product against the older Pitchblack. It has the same fast tracking and precise tuning but with a better display! Same features but improved usability due to the larger note indicator and narrow vertical stripes. It feels more responsive on stage because of that.
Like the old Pitchblack, it works really well on my 5-string bass which is tuned FCGCG! It detects the low G almost instantaneously and tuning is a breeze!
