They Lift Your Speakers Higher So You Can Hear Better!
Since my monitor speakers would have otherwise been sitting directly on my computer desk, I decided to get something to isolate them with. The initial decision was between isolation pads and speaker stands. I decided to go with IsoAcoustics desktop stands because they took care of two problems at once: they isolate the speakers from whatever surface they're sitting on while also lifting the speakers to more appropriate hight. My desk is made of cheap plywood and is really messy but I haven't had any unwanted vibrations or resonances.
There were many different size options, and in the end I decided to go with model L8R155. I'm using them to support a pair of Equator D5's. I'm really happy with them. The IsoAcoustics stands can be configured in a variety of ways. There are two height settings, and you can tilt the stands slightly to aim the speakers they way you like.
Please note that the stands do not come pre-assembled. You have to put them together yourself but the instructions were clear enough and it didn't take very long. You need to find a place to store the extra parts though, as the stands come with two sets of short and long pipes, which determine the "hight setting". I suggest holding on to the origianl packaging.
If assembled correctly the stands are really solid, and do a great job standing on your desk supporting your speakers. Recommended!
Very easy to assemble and adjust to different situations. I use them with a pair of HS-50M monitors on a standard desk raised by 20cm. This makes the tweeter alignment perfect for me. I also experience a much more crisp and dynamic sound compared to having the monitors placed on a pile of magazines.
