Game changer!

I just bought a Lumix G9 for video work. I thought I would be able to record straight to my MacBook Pro, but it turns out I still needed a HDMI to USB 3 converter. Searched high and low and nearly paid 700 euros for a Canadian built high quality unit. Searched Thomann and found this Inogeni at almost half the price. Looks VERY similar to the more expensive alternative and has the same specs on paper. I went for the Inogeni. I notice that it too is built in Canada. Maybe the same unit. In any case, I had a lot of chance to use it and put it through its paces. Result is stunning. One note to be aware of is that this conversion process creates a slight delay between the audio and video when using a separate audio interface. I think about 9 frames of delay on the video. So that needs to be compensated for in post. That is probably just the nature of the beast and not about this unit itself. There is an 8th inch audio input which if used, probably avoids this delay. But I prefer good XLR mics into a good mic preamp so the post adjustment is worth the work. Resolution is 4k but is limited more by the software for video recording. In Zoom, OBS and Quicktime, the image looks fantastic, though they each have their own maximum resolutions which vary. Even with a 30 foot HDMI cable, the image is razor sharp. I saw many less expensive alternatives on Amazon but I think there is a quality compromise unless you get a pro unit. This is a pro unit and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to record video directly to a Mac. Probably to a PC too, but I haven't used it with PC. Thanks to the Inogeni converter, I am about to launch my epic YouTube channel in high style, with a little help from a very nice camera.
