This is the third Ibanez guitar I've bought that was made in the Seehan factory in China and it did not disappoint. The craftsmanship is flawless and the overall finish of the guitar is absolutely gorgeous. This guitar would rival any American made custom instrument and only costs a fraction of what one of those would set you back. I used this guitar at a gig a few weeks ago and I never got so many compliments on a guitar before this. It's that pretty! The mahogony body and bubinga top together with the 3 piece maple neck provide a tight focused sound which resonates warmly with pleny of bite and sustain. The fingerboard is very comfortable and the action can be dropped very low with no loss of tone and no fret buzz. You can really shred on this axe if you want to!
The Super 58 pick ups are good but they wont blow you away. They're of the classic PAF type so if you like super high output they're not for you. Although in saying that I play a lot of Classic/Hard Rock/Blues Rock right up to classic Heavy Metal and this guitar can handle that work load just fine. A little bit more output in the bridge pick up would've been a good idea though, just for kicks! I knocked off one star for features & sound for the following reason: the tri-tone switch for each pick up is a great feature but to get the full value from it you would need the pick ups to be a little hotter. If you split a moderate output humbucker you get a really weak single coil, split a higher output humbucker and you get a fat single coil which is a lot more useable. The parallel/series option doesn't do a lot to the sound at all probably for similar reasons. But as humbuckers they sound just fine which is all I care about really so the above is a minor quibble. Pick ups can always be swopped out if needs be anyway but I'll be leaving these right where they are. In fairness to Ibanez, their stock pick ups are far better than those of other guitar brands. I've got an ART 100 with the Ibanez ACH humbuckers and I reckon they sound pretty good too.
All in all, this is a great guitar -not just 'for the price'- it's a great guitar full stop. You could pay a couple of grand for a guitar and it might not play or sound as good as this. Well done Ibanez for producing professional level instruments at affordable prices.
Guitar arrived quite quickly - and is a beautiful guitar and sounds excellent. However bit concerned with all the tags etc for quality control this guitar went out with a 13th fret that had raised on both both treble and bass end and rendered it unplayable at any normal action. Its current being sorted by a tech but bit concerned that this slipped through. Fretboard was VERY dry and so pretty unlikely to be a issue that happened due to shipping, it looks like shrinkage. Amended: Luthier has told me work is not a simple cheap fix, so I've just had to spend 20% of the value of this guitar to get it playable. Not Happy
Amended 2 - very happy - Thomann have dealt with the issue, quickly and couteously. Excellent new
