If you buy this "alternative pixie" mute you must be aware of a couple of things beforehand. It will be crap for tuning, and stuffy down low. IF you wish to actually insert it fully into the bell then you will have to experiment with the cork height until it works for you. This is not a fault of the mute, its just how it is.
Its not better than the metal "Pixie" mute, but it is different. I would not recommend anyone using this who is not already proficient with the metal Pixie. This one is especially good at the "Muggsy Spanier" type sound... but leave the mute sitting in the plunger, don't stick it all the way in the bell.
Technical stuff aside, its the usual top notch H&B quality (except for the corks! lol) But you always need to mess with them anyway.
I recommend the mute - but only for die-hard plunger style players interested in that particular idiom. If you only need a "pixie" for general plunger work, then the metal one is fine, and works as a straight mute without the plunger as well.
