Special 20's have excellent playability and sound great. I tried Suzuki, Seydel and Hohners. In my experience, Hohner special 20 sounds great out-of-the-box, have excellent playability and last the same ammount of time as others. The recessed comb and top notch finishing quality (without sharp edges) makes the sp20 feel very comfortable.
Bought this after buying a cheap flimsy harmonica from my local shop, and from doing some research, learning that this was the instrument for me. As far as I know the Special 20 Classic G harmonica uses the same Marine band reeds, that are used by the likes of Neil Young among other musicians.
The difference was astonishing. The special 20 produces a beautiful rich sound with minimal effort, the instrument practically plays itself! I've found the build quality to be excellent, the harmonica is completely sturdy and seems to be made of high quality materials.
The only difference between this and the one used by young, is that the comb is made from plastic as opposed to pearwood, improving durability and reducing swelling from sweat and the like.
I would never have any desire to buy another brand of harmonica seeing what the special twenty can do for it's cheap price. I mean where could you go wrong, harmonicas were invented in Germany, the Special 20 is made in Germany and Thomann is a German website! These people know what they're doing!
