Pros: - Fit and finish is nicely done, no major flaws. - Wilkinson P90 pickups sound sweet!
Cons - Tuner posts are too short for the headstock! There is almost no room to wrap the thicker strings. This is too bad as the tuners themselves feel quite nice. - Fingerboard was very dry. Roseacer doesn't feel quite as smooth as rosewood, even after oiling - Frets were rusty & rough; needed a polish (otherwise the fretwork is very good) - Can't lower the action as low as I'd like because the strings hit the pickups. The pickups won't go lower either. However, the action is very playable as is. - Very heavy guitar!
That seems like a lot of cons but I actually quite like this guitar, especially considering the price. I think it compares favorably with mid-range guitars that cost 3 times more. I've since put a Les Trem II on it and it sounds fantastic!
I already own the SC-Custom Lemon Flame so I can compare this to that guitar. The build quality is just as good (and does this gloss black beauty shine!) and no problems with the binding.
Only 2 minor gripes :- 1) a number of fret ends are not as smooth as on my lemon flame guitar being a bit rough to the touch. (nothing a little file wont fix -although they do not hinder playing of the guitar);
2) The guitar arrived with a coating of white powder (dried glue?) covering the fretboard - which I hope will clean off.
This is my first experience with p90 pickups and what a pleasant one it is. The neck pickup is fantastic having a unique sound for me. I don't know how to describe it but p90 afficianados may know what I mean. Also the pickups sparkle with clarity with no loss of bass.
The guitar looks , plays and sounds as good as any £400 guitar. Very pleased.
