It fitted in with what i wanted, my thoughts of what an early blues guitar should be. The way it looks, the tones that the solid Mahogany, single cone give. The colour, the whole look, feel, vibe. Even the name. I feel in love with this guitar. Don't be fooled, put off by the price. The fact that its made in China. The Workmanship on this is excellent. It is really well made. I have made changes, but thats more of a personal thing. That suit my own style of playing. I have, still do that to every guitar i have, or will ever own. Give it that personal touch. The guitar as stock was fine out of the box. It was very playable. The frets were spot on. Have not been changed. The action was a little low for slide, my style of play. i have changed the nut to a higher one. Used a decent bone nut. Adds a little brightness, but not too much. I was not sure of what the old nut was made of. I changed the tuners to Schaller GrandTune Butterbean. These are of a higher grade, look wonderful. At 18:1 they work tighter. They are also European, which suits the guitar brand more. They did seem to improve the action as well. The stock grovers are ok, but i wanted to add more class to this guitar. I felt that it was deserving of up grades. I placed on D'Addario EXP23 EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Baritone (.016-.070) Strings. I drop to a open G or D tuning with these strings fitted. That also add's to that sound i was looking for. Allows the strings to sit firmer. Gives the sound much more depth and feeling. The single cone really sounds excellent. It has a nice volume to it. Became louder with high gauged strings. The sound really blew me away. I can almost feel myself riding the railroad in the 1930's if i close my eyes. It really does sound very authentic. I have also played it through a Dynamic Instrument Microphone. It sounded great through the amp. But most of all, it sounds even better accoustic. Placing a slide on the neck brings it to life. Its screams Delta Blues. You could pay lots more, not get close to this sound. I played a few before i settled on this one. The price was also excellent. To put this simple. I own many guitars, many that cost much more. This is up there with the best, better than most i have owned. Nope. I do not work for Gretsch, or Thomann. I am just one over the moon customer. I am unable to stop playing this guitar. To put it down. I feel like i did way back when learning as a teenager. I have that guitar buzz again. :-)
Beautifull guitar, it as a really nice finish and a great sound and all at an affordable price.I have a collection of gretsch guitars and this one as a unique sound just like any gretsch in my collection.
