So the "Gewa Jew's Harp 70mm Nr.8" is my first jaw / Jews harp, I had watched a few youtube videos about these little instruments and they look like a bit of fun, at ?3.86 and with 23 4.5 star rating this seemed like as good a place to start as any. There are plenty of instructional videos on youtube so it wasn't long before I had the little harp gripped correctly and having worked out exactly where to hold it against my teeth I was able to get some sounds from it, once I starting breathing correctly i was rewarded with an increase in volume and that "primitive rhythm" I had been looking for bloomed. I now just need plenty of practice but I was surprised how quickly it all came together. One criticism is that it's pretty small, I see larger jaw harps on youtube videos and I imagine they are much easier to play, I do find this one quite awkward due to it being so small, it's advertised as being 70mm, I'm measuring it at 65mm. Weight if it's of any interest is only 17g It a very cheap little instrument and it looks it, it really doesn't have the appearance if a quality instrument, it's a little rough and looks more like a toy but for the price it's certainly a good enough way to see if a jaw harp is for you but I'd rather pay a but more for a higher quality harp. Is it for me ?, absolutely not ...... it drives my teeth crazy , I have fairly sensitive teeth and this just starts them shivering , it's one thing I didn't hear mentioned in any youtube videos or internet forums when I was finding out about these harps but unfortunately it's a deal breaker for me, still I'm glad I tried this little harp.
OK Product - but Jew's Harp is not as easy as it seems!

Bought this Jew's Harp on a hunch and it's not really what I expected. I've never played one before and only knew a little about them. The actual build of the harp feels quite low quality as it is fairly flimsy and I was actually worried I might break it when attempting to use it. The product is only cheap so I guess this could be expected.
It's actually a lot harder to play than I would have thought and I haven't actually been able to get a decent sound out of it - even after watching some tutorial videos on how to use the instrument. It's actually fairly worrying trying to use it as it seems it could quite easily damage your teeth!
Maybe this product would be better appreciated by somebody who knows how to play the Jew's Harp or somebody willing to put more hours into learning it - but it is not a simple thing to pick up and play.
