Effect Pedal for Electric GuitarThe Fulltone "Obsessive Compulsive Drive" (OCD) has been designed to replicate the dynamics and the overtones of a cranked tube amp with its typical power amp distortion. By turning down the volume control of the guitar, dozens more sounds become available. The Controls include volume, drive, tone and a mini toggle switch. The device can be operated with 9 or 18 volts, and with the higher voltage it sounds more powerful and percussive. (Think of it as the difference between 50 and 100 Marshall amps).
Controller: Volume, Drive, Tone
Mini toggle switch
9 V or 18 V operation possible - in operation with the higher voltage, the sound is loud and percussive (suitable 18 V power supply for example: Art. 174583 - not included)
Fulltone OCD is a must have Distortion pedal! Simple, Diverse, and most important - Powerful, yet easy to handle in different musical styles.
On the Electric guitar I play different kinds of music - mostly Blues/Ambient/Rock kind of styles, so for me the ideal pedals would be with a possibility to create a wide variety of moods. I am especially hard to please, when it comes to distortion pedals, and over the years I have tried many different pedals and settings, and I have to say - Fulltone OCD is really one of the best pedals out there.
It's possible to create diverse enough distortion sound - from a smooth, yet crunchy 70's blues ballad guitar solo sound, to a full-on, mind-blowing hard rock distortion.
The best thing about this pedal is it's quality of sound not only when playing live, but also when recording - which in my opinion is much more important, because sometimes good enough sounding distortion pedals tend to sound somewhat less clear in a studio environment. With this pedal, I am finally able to fix the same energy on the record.
I have played this pedal with a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Telecaster and Fender Pacifica, and while the sound is different, it's quite easily adjustable to the guitar you use.
Sadly, I don't have any experience playing Fulltone OCD without an amp, so I can't say how good it sounds with just the line-in setup. But I am sure, for every distortion pedal to really ring out, a good, tube amplifier is a must-have.
I haven't also had the chance to experiment with the 18v setting, but from what I've heard, it should be as it sounds - double the power, double the pleasure
So, to sum it up - I definitely recommend Fulltone OCD. It's well worth the price, and will be a good and trustful addition to any guitar player's pedalboard.
I like this pedal, but I don't find it too versatile. What I personally find slightly uncomfortable is that it seems to have a lot of mid-low & low end, which kills a bit of definition. This cannot be really changed by the tone knob, therefore the lack of stars in features, as I don't see it as a very versatile pedal. It's however perfect for a fat metal tone!
