I've been looking for an alternative guitar to my Pacifica 611. Something with single coil pups. As much as I like the P90 with Custom 5 with coil split and stuff something wasn't quite there.
I ordered this and I just love it! This is such a great instrument from all points of view! Let me get more into detail. Been playing this instrument for a whole week now.
Finish/look: If you're into that retro look, you have VOX laying around somewhere then this just look amazing next to one! It has a very vintage look with all the modern appointments you would expect.
The neck is finished amazingly well. I found nothing to complain about and I looked quite a bit. It plays REALLY nicely with those jumbo frets, the frets are so smooth it feels like butter.
The setup was honestly perfect out of the box. Intonation was excelent, playability was excelent, the radius on the bridge was excelent. Cmon this was a great investment. Later I discovered this had a paper with the inspection team all signed up and approved. Great big plus from me.
It has standard tuners, which I maybe was expecting a bit more, I neglected this part when I actually checked the instrument out anyways. They work so I can't complain! It hasn't gone out of tune yet after a few days of playing. Thumbs up.
Satin finish on the neck. Need I say more? You feel like you're flying when you play!
Also vintage brass saddles anyone? While more of a pain to set up properly the guitar came intonated perfectly. Even though I prefer 10's on my guitars, this one feels so great I think I'll keep the stock size on it, having it already so nicely set up, I quite enjoy the lighter gauge.
Features: Greasebucket Tone Circuit. I love this feature. It really takes your guitar to a whole new level in terms of what you can achieve with your tone. Having the spanky Tele tone but then dialing it back for a smoother warmer sound, without that bass just clogging up the noise is beautiful. Played some jazz on it, nothing to complain there!
Sound: Classic Tele sound, I love it. While it has the spank you expect, because of the Texas Special's the guitar sounds fuller and warmer, at least to my ears. Some say exactly the opposite so I dunno, but to my ears this guitar sounds warmer while keeping the spank and attitude you expect from a proper telecaster!
Paired with a VOX AC30 this is a dream! It sounds great!
Bonus stuff: Everyone who has seen this instrument was caught by how great it sounds and how great it looks. It's everything you expect from an USA model!
Final verdict: For me personally this was a great buy! Everything I was looking for in one beautiful instrument. Is it worthy it compared to other cheaper alternatives like the Baja or Highway One? Well that's up to you, but with the satin neck, jumbo frets and the brass bridge, I'd say it's worth it. At least to me.
Also being real now, anyone with a "Made in USA" Fender will buy one for the appeal of having an USA instrument. It adds a certain value to the instrument. Is it much more different from other closely priced but cheaper guitars? Maybe not. But for the bundle I enjoy it so much it's crazy.
I recommend you try one out. It's a really great instrument!
