When I first got my stingray bass these were the strings that came with it. Tried different types of strings after that in the course of 3 years but always came back to this set. To me this set is to bass strings what stingray is to bass guitars. You can play pretty much everything with them.
A classic-well balanced gauging, right amount of flexibility across the neck, right amount of grip-resistance. Tone wise, they're very responsive. You can easily achieve a gnarling, aggressive or a much more mellow, round sound with them. Thus they can handle pretty much any playing style. They are a little bit on the bright side; if you want a darker sound and less brightness (for picking or reggae for instance) you can just dial it in on the eq and strings wont fight back in tone.
They do lose their brightness after a certain amount of playing but they last much longer than most of the other strings I tried and the "gnarling" never goes away. Highly recommended.
I use the Ernie Ball 2834 Super Slinky Strings on my J-Bass Copy. There is nothing else to say than: perfect! Sound: Nice funky sound, but also good for rock stuff or even some soul (especially when the strings are a bit older). They made my very cheap knock-off Jazz-Bass sound a lot better. Quality: The strings don?t keep their brilliance clean sound (in the heights) very long. (Maybe because of my sweaty hands?!). But even after that loss of the clean heights they keep their characteristic growly sound in some way. On top of that I never had a dead or a broken string in one of my many packs (unlike some other companies strings). All in all I?m just going to repeat myself: Perfect! They made my instrument sound a lot better!
