This amp is a fantastic amp, it's insanely versatile, sounds great, solid build quality and probably the only ENGL amp that I've managed to get on with.
However, I realised that it just wasn't the amp for me, whilst it does sound fantastic, despite the name I found it almost too polite. It's a very tight amplifier which I slowly came to the realisation wasn't the sound I was after. A shame as otherwise it was great, I just needed something with a looser sound.
Overall I can't fault the build quality, the versatile loop and channel options, in the end it just came down to personal preference, I ended up trading with a friend for an old Mesa triple rectifier after 2 years of use and they've had it ever since.
I'd highly recommend this amp if you want a great sounding flexible amp, but be aware that whilst it's called a savage, some might find it a little too refined compared to other amplifiers, by all means check it out in person first and make sure it's what you really want, because if it's your kind of thing you'll be in love! Just make sire you get the foot switch!
Monster amp with brutal distrotion and super smooth clean sound
Miha K., 04.09.2013
I've never played Engl before I bought my Savage 120 E-610, so I just trusted the videos and all the artists who are using it. When this baby arrived home, I was quickly blown away! The sounds this monster makes is brutal! Clean chanel is smooth and warm, crunch 1 is great for rock n roll, crunch 2 is probably my least favourite chanel, but when it comes to the fourth chanel - Lead...this is just heaven. I'm really into extreme metal and this chanel is all about extreme brutal distrotion. Very heavy, a lot of meat in the sound and still has all the definition for the solos and leads. The more I play this amp, the more I love it!
