For the occasional mandolin player these strings are a must. I play mandolin on some of my gigs but not on a weekly or a daily basis so the strings dont get played that often. These strings are perfect when you have to grab your mandolin after a couple of weeks and play it on stage. You dont have to worry about the strings being dead after a couple of weeks in the case. These strings sound bright for weeks and months. It is the same thing with all elixir strings, you have to get used to the feel. It is somewhat slickier than your normal uncoated string but the sound they produce week in week out more than makes up for the slighty odd feel. All in all really good mandostrings for the occasional mandolin player.
Bought these to put on my acoustic-electric mandolin. This particular mandolin doesn't get much use and I hate reaching for it once in a while and finding the strings in a pitiful condition. I figured I'd get a set of these Elixirs as they are reputed to last more than other strings and therefore string changes would be less frequent.
Tone is very good, a bit bright but that's okay, it can always be adjusted when amplified. Very pleasing to the ear and they made the mandolin sound a little louder. Good string to string balance, no strings are over-powering others and bass really defined and not boomy at all.
They do feel a little stiff when compared to other brands, especially when you reach higher up the fingerboard, but the longevity you get from these strings makes up for that. This stiffness is however a minor issue because on mandolin you're not going to be bending strings as much as you do on guitar. And regarding longevity, it's as if they're immune to corrosion. They're truly long lasting.
