I strung up this set of strings upon my Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV to try and shift the instrument's sound characteristics towards its preferred purpose: A deep and unchy sound, high on attack and with an aggressive amount of growl. Turns out the strings not only perform just as intended, but even add some decent amount of flexibility. Equalisation and compression settings over my amplifier are to be able to respond more precisely to the pure steel wound strings and allow to add a varying degree of both precision in overtonal behaviour and low frequency response.
No neck tension adjustment was performed after replacing 45-65-80-100 strings with these 50-70-90-110. Drop D tuning is easily affordable without any noticable loss in string tension. Mechanical buzz is less noticable in comparison to thinner strings even in lower string height settings. Higher string thickness requires a stronger grip however and might need some time to getting used to.
Only concern might be a possible short term durability of the strings and their tonal performance. The initial sound however would not have been able to produce with lower thickness or non-pure steel strings.
