I recently purchased the Drumport 22" Megaport Booster Black and as usual was very impressed with Thomann delivery and service! I had tried a friends one and found the sound to be much improved on my pinstripe with a port cut out of the front. It does however require in my opinion a little damping on the batter head as I tune my bass drum pretty high and found it had some unwanted overtones still. I play unmiked and found the projection of sound to be much improved.
Warning!! I play two old premier acoustic kits, a 1972 B303 and a 1984 Royale APK. I put the drumport on the Royale which has a chrome rod which slides into the top of the bass drum which is used to mount power size tom toms on 10.5 mm rods. After each gig I break down the kit, remove the tom mount. Can you see what is about to happen? On setting up for the first time with my new drum port I heard that horrible sound of steel on plastic as my chrome tom arm mount for the bass drum sliced through the drum port ! Horrified I then set about installing gaffer tape to the damaged area (not even black tape to match my drumport!) and played the gig. I suppose I should have seen this coming but as working drummers know you set up as quick as you can and I have done this a hundred times without any damage to anything. Just warning the rest of you drummers who use mounting posts which insert into your bass drum.
Good product but you will have to mount your tom's on stands unless you like to play them very high!!
As an aside I emailed drumport with my observations and didn't even receive an acknowledgement. Totally unprofessional in my opinion. Its no way to treat customers. I wasn't complaining about the product but warning others of possible damage. It is a good product nonetheless.
