My very good impression about this trumpet started from post service, which managed to deliver it exactly by 12:00 on 31st December, just before our New Year gifts were ready under Christmas Tree. I hardly was able to keep myself away from package till "the moment of truth"! My anticipation finally turned into admiration when I opened the case with a very precious thing! It was like to open a little treasure box after difficult search around the island! :) That was my first (and I hope not the last!) brand new trumpet with such a beautiful appearance (my old Amati counts about 30+). But one thing that makes a trumpet worth to play is its sound. My playing skills (10 years of musical school & tiny orchestra in academy with 10+ years break) are, probably, not so high to give a deep in details review, but I have to mention, that even me felt myself as professional musician when I blew out of that "Pocket" "The Summer Time" tune and my family was surprised about it as well :) Pros: 1. Sound - I like it pretty much. My neighbors living overhead obviously too, as they started to knock on the heating batteries in the beat with tune. It sounds just like the "full size" trumpet, and really much better than my student "old friend". I have to say it was quite easy and free to blow in spite of my long break in playing, and my head became dizzy quite soon. 2. Size - "Pocket" is the right size for frequent travelers like me; the only disadvantage is frequent blow-down due to condensate in my particular case. 3. Appearance - just very nice and smart, attracting my sight every time and providing a pleasure of playing, holding and owing it. 4. Amado drain valves - nice looking, comfortable to use. 5. Case - light weight, good looking, but there is no securing latch or code-lock. Cons: 1. Third valve remains slightly stiff after one year of not regular playing, cleaning and lubricating. 2. All valves have traces of "black dots" on internal surfaces which I failed to remove, slides too. Never had such a problem with old Amati. 3. Bottom and upper cups are very light weight, it was unusual and unexpected for me after quite heavy ones on "my old friend". 4. Amado drain valves - less efficient than conventional ones for blow-down of spit. Due to essential amount of "condensate" some drops may be blown out of bell even.
This is a "Pocket" for pleasure of trumpet playing, definitely. I am glad that bought it after few weeks research on different websites with reviews and discusssions about "+&-" of pocket size.
Imho: Really good balance between purpose, quality & price. It surprises (taking in account the pocket size) with comfortable playing and sound control even for less skilled players like me. But the most important thing remains the sound, and that this instrument provided me a feeling of reviving of something good in my life. Thanks to all & THOMANN team!
