Thanks to Roland/Boss's years of modelling experience (it is the first company to have worked with Digital Modeling, the VG-8 Virtual Guitar System 1995), these three sounds are different from the originals in only one aspect: the price is much lower!

My first Fuzz Pedal

Hi there,

I play rock. I usually play around overdrive and distortion sound. I needed (OK, I wanted ^^) crazier, louder and "more power distortion" sound for some songs.

First Fuzz, I was curious to try and I am really happy. The big distortion is really there ^^. I have a lot of fun to play with.

For info, I use it with a Fender Hot Rod 3 del. and start SSS.

Pros:
- Good quality/Robust
- Nice sound
- Possibility to change sounds (3 pre-set) + Boost
Cons:
- I didn't personally like the 2 other presets M and O (but I am sure there is good things to do with)

Conclusions:
It is, for me, a good purchase. It is a versatile good Fuzz and with a good price reduction (-28%)

Pédale de bonne qualité et très simple d'utilisation mais peut sonner bizarre si elle est utilisée seule, je mets personnellement un peu d'overdrive juste après pour avoir un son de meilleur qualité mais la pédale en elle-même est très bonne.

I really like this fuzz pedal.

This is a perfect pedal to create the rock sounds from the past (like 60s, 70s style).
The boost knob is really interesting because you can change the type of fuzz with it.

- Qualité : avec Boss il est difficile de se tromper. Les produits sont toujours de qualité et les sons suffisamment étudiés pour qu'il y ait peu de risque d'être déçu par le résultat. Le FZ-5 ne fait pas exception. Cette pédale permet de retrouver les principaux types de fuzz ayant jalonné l'histoire de cet effet : FuzzFace (1966), Maestro Fuzz-Tone (1962, Rolling Stones « Satisfaction » 1965), et Octavia (1967 Jimi Hendrix). Si c'est votre première fuzz, c'est un bon choix. Personnellement, je trouve l'Octavia très convainquant, surtout avec le boost à fond.

- Inconvénients : après l'Hyper Fuzz FZ-2 analogique qui est la « Metal Zone » des fuzz, avec une égalisation très puissante permettant des sons extrêmes, et après la Fuzz FZ-3 analogique, plus basique, proche des modèles des années 60 & 70, la Fuzz FZ-5 numérique utilise la technologie COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling) qui traite le son comme le ferait un ordinateur afin de reproduire numériquement un son particulier. Ça présente l'avantage d'une bonne imitation, mais l'inconvénient de rigidifier le processus. Il devient plus difficile de « travailler » le son de la pédale en la faisant précéder d'autres effets (pedal stacking), notamment un boost ou un overdrive. Donc, très bien pour un son calibré, moins sensible à votre guitare ou votre ampli. Moins bien si vous recherchez la « malléabilité » des effets analogiques afin de personnaliser votre son, ou si vous cherchez à mettre en avant les caractéristiques de votre guitare et de votre ampli.
