I am absolutely delighted with my recent purchase from Thomann, I was drawn to purchase this because of it's usb drive recording facility enabling easy recording of my live performances. And when I say easy, it was as simple as press the stop and rewind buttons simultaneously to format your drive which plugs in at the rear of the mixer, press the record button then play back when you get home, I was so impressed with the quality which was much better than a recent visit to a studio, no expensive engineer needed here. Great on board effects with spacious dramatic tones that really enhance and on board EQ that tightens up the frequencies you hear in the mix. it's a beautiful looking mixer too with a nice shiny burgundy finish of the side panels. you can edit the effects using the tap button, XLR Mic and Line inputs, and Hi z for guitars on channels 1 and 2, a low cut button and 48V phantom power. I think Behringer have excelled with this piece of kit which is worth much more than it's price tag! my advice Get One!
How can you make a mixer/multitracker for this price??
Handling: The transporting of this is a bit difficult for 2 reasons; there are no cases for it and it doesn't rack mount without some additional aid. However, I contacted Thomann and they told me they can make a customised hardcase to fit it perfectly.
Features: This mixer can do so much! I mainly bought it because of its ability to record all of its channels individually, but as a mixer it is also very good. The EQ is my favorite kind, very logical with 80hz as the low frequency, 12khz as the high and a mid that can be adjusted. The effects are also of very high quality and very easy to use, even though its all basically 1 knob function. The only thing it is missing that I would have really enjoyed is a small graphic equalizer. That would have made it the perfect gigging partner for me, but no biggie as behringer do some pretty good rack eq's.
Sound: The recording quality is pretty high. I'm sure most high end sound engineers will say that the pre-amps aren't as good and the quality is sub-par compared to other multitrackers, but at around 330 euros it's not something to complain about. Also when recording live gigs which this seems to be directed for, the sound quality is just as good as the equipment you're using.
Quality: Behringer have made a name for themselves in the past for making bad quality products, but they are doing their best to get out of that pattern of thinking. They are upping their game but somehow keeping their prices low. This mixer is evidence of that. It is built rather well, as good as most other mixers I've seen. Perhaps the knobs for the EQ's and such are slightly more plastic feeling and would break if you dropped it, but so would most other mixers. The one thing thats slightly annoying is the fader knobs which are silver painted, but the line showing the middle is extremely hard to see. It would have been a lot more logical to draw in a black line to accentuate the middle of the fader.
Overall this is a perfect piece of kit for recording a small live band and mixing them as well. I am very happy with my purchase.
