Upon reflection...A great buy
The traditional Mirrorball effect is great, hundreds of slowly moving tiny dots reflected onto surfaces around a venue. The difficulty with traditional mirror balls however, is that you need to hang them up somewhere with the motor above them, then theres a small length of wobbly chain between the ball and the motor, and then if the place you hang them from isnt stable (eg: only a lighting gantry or trussing or a T-Bar on a tripod, then the tiniest wobble gets multiplied greatly and the reflected dots wobble by a huge degree, spoiling the effect.
Also, with traditional mirrorballs, once you add up the length of the mirrorball motor, the length of the chain etc, you need at least 30cms extra hanging space above any mirrorball, which can cause a problem in low ceiling venues.
So, this mirrorball gets around those two traditional mirrorball problems of motor & chain, and wobble by having the motor INSIDE the hollow half-mirrorball, attached directly and firmly, rather than with a wobbly chain. This means that whether you're mounting it onto something above or placing these on the floor the other way up, there's only approx a 2cm gap between the resting surface, and the mirrors beginning. This revelation makes for a great effect. The 2cms gap is rather essential as it allows the electric cable to pass out from under the mirrorball.
I now use these in certain venues, in pairs, with them both face/mirror UP and then I aim moving heads at the mirrorballs for special effects. Fantastic!
Overall, these appear to be well built, with no mirror facets falling off so far (over two years usage), and the motors are still as smooth and jerk-free as they were when they came out of the box.
