4. Student Bassoons
If the student beginner is able to cope with a full-size bassoon straight away, there are several instruments suitable for this purpose - many manufacturers sell a basic student model. These usually have slightly simpler key-work than professional bassoons, often lacking the very high note keys or some of the keys that facilitate specific trills. Student models are occasionally not made of maple as bassoons usually are - polypropylene, ebonite or even plastic is sometimes used, although not always to great effect. Student bassoons are the cheapest instruments available, but their price will still depend on the manufacturer and can be anywhere between one and a half and three thousand pounds.
