Sound VS Durability

Ernie Ball's zijn notorious voor slechte houdbaarheid. Maar de Cobalt's doen er nog een schepje bovenop. Het is zelfs zover, dat een pakje met een best practice instructie komt om de houdbaarheid zo lang mogelijk te houden.
Ik breek deze snaren niet of nauwelijks. Ik speel metal met een 1.14mm plectrum. Ik heb veel snaren gebroken. Maar deze niet.
Deze vervang ik omdat na een maand de sound compleet dof is. De Cobalt Coating zorgt voor een high output sprankel, maar slijt ook vrij snel. Ook als je de gitaar neit vaak oppakt (ik heb ze ook op m'n back-up gehad, same problem).

So would I buy again? - YES!!
Voor mij is sound belangrijker dan houdbaarheid. En tot nu toe krijg ik de beste resultaten voor wat ik wil met deze Cobalts. En ik heb heb vanalles geprobeerd.
So words of advice; know the downsides of your strings. Evaluate if they weigh in to your upsides. Don't listen to anyone else. Play what you feel is best.

Disappointing tone and lifespan.

These strings were recommended to me as an alternative to some anti rust strings i've been using. I was assured these strings were long lasting and more suitable for the tuning I was using. Alas, this was not the case.

The strings have a very dull sound and make my axe fx and ibanez prestige S sound bad. The bottom strings turned a dark grey a single day after using them and they seem to have lost their tone overnight. The overall tone was slightly muddy when they were new but the gauge is too thick even for extremely low tunings to A and B. There was no give and little life when the strings were new and they died almost straight away. I couldn't recommend these strings to anyone looking for a long lasting set of strings.

Finally competition to Elixir's

Like in the topic, finally some string manufacturer dared to design guitar strings that may compete with good old Elixir's. The sound is bright and they tend not to buzz as Elixirs may have. Also, they are not covered with a material that is used with Elixirs so I presume that using some string cleaner would be beneficial and will extend strings lifespan.

After watching several glowing reviews on youtube, I decided to take the plunge with a six string set of Ernie Ball slinky cobalt, and hang the expense... The sheer tone improvement and longevity were more than worth the money. I was delighted when EB saw sense and introduced a seven string set! Not only do they deliver excellent tone and staying power, the gauge selections in this set are very well balanced, with a mighty 62 on the seventh string. I had previously been compelled to change strings after only a couple of recording sessions to preserve the sustain and clarity... with cobalts I am five songs in and they are still bright and powerful. Now, I wonder when they'll introduce an eight string set... Many thanks Ernie Ball!
