Does the job but could be even better
I needed a high-quality external 48V power supply, and this unit certainly appears to be well built. It performs its job perfectly well. That said, there are a few areas where Palmer could improve the design:
- Replace the fixed power cable with a standard IEC connector. This would allow users to choose the cable length and make replacement easier if the cable is ever damaged.
- Consider placing the input on the front and the output on the rear to improve cable management in studio setups.
- Add a second LED on the top panel. Since the unit is likely to be used on the floor, this would make it much easier to confirm at a glance that it is powered on.
- Include a standard mounting thread on the bottom, so it can be attached to a clamp or stand if needed.
Overall, it’s a solid unit that does exactly what it is designed to do, with just a few ergonomic improvements that could make it even better.
