How highly or lowly can you rates two bits of foam? If you possess a pair of Grado SR80’s amongst your headphone collection, I’d say pretty highly. I don’t know how Grado do it but the black foam pads which come with their SR80s ought to earn you time off of purgatory, they become tortuously uncomfortable very quickly (though I will admit they do break in a bit over time). However, these Sennheiser HD414 pads fit the SR80s (and presumably also the SR60s) perfectly and are significantly more comfortable from the get go. As the Grados are on-ear and seem to have quite a bit of clamping force, they inevitable will become uncomfortable much more quickly than over-ear headphones, but these pads certainly improve things. And the yellow and black colour scheme makes you look a little bit like a bumblebee.
These pads are a slightly tighter fit that the Grado originals, but a couple of quick tugs at the foam gets them on and causes no harm. Once on, as I’ve already said, the fit is perfect.
