Moog Grandmother

Premetto di non essere un tastierista puro, ma la passione per la musica mi ha esortato all'acquisto di un prodotto che ritorna ogni centesimo del suo valore, forse con gli interessi. Ne sono più che soddisfatto. E' sufficiente alterare un parametro per aprire scenari sonori affascinanti. Per non sfigurare davanti al Grandmother sto studiando seriamente la tastiera che prima guardavo con distacco! E sottolineo che le sue sonorità vanno benissimo per ambiti musicali che non siano solo la musica elettronica. Strumento completo, affascinante, timbri musicali che coprono tutta la storia della musica moderna.
Ha risvegliato in me l'entusiasmo del sedicenne nella sua veste di "giocattolo musicale". Stupendo per il rock progressivo.
E non dimentichiamo i bassi, puliti, profondi, completi. Un'esperienza sonora esaltante.

Non ci si annoia mai! I suoni che si possono tirare fuori dal Grandmother sono infiniti e estremamente soddisfacenti, infatti la caratteristica che apprezzo più di tutte è la possibilità di raggiungere combinazioni sonore sempre diverse grazie alla sezione modulare, la logica del percorso di segnale su pannello è chiarissima e non ci fa mancare nulla, tutti i parametri e relative regolazioni sono ben leggibili, i knob sono belli grandi, tastiera molto buona e "scorrevole". Il suono è quello dei '70s, molto molto vintage, ha una pasta sonora palpabile, grazie anche al fantastico filtro Low Pass (combinabile con un High pass). Anche la sezione Arp/Sequencer è veramente divertente, si ha molto controllo sulle sequenze potendo scegliere accenti, pause e legature, con clock potenzialmente esterno. Il riverbero a molla è un'aggiunta veramente speciale, e ancora una volta ci sembra di tornare indietro nel tempo. Amo giocare con questo synth e trovare nuove patch da memorizzare (su carta o su schemi che trovi online). Consiglio vivamente a chiunque fosse interressato allo strumento di vedersi il video-dimostrazione di Enrico Cosimi sul Grandmother. Rapporto qualità-prezzo? Penso davvero bilanciato per questo piccolo gioiello, spesso si paga soprattutto il marchio, ma credo che per quello che offre lo strumento sia giustificato ogni centesimo! Non riesco a pensare a dei contro, nessuno strumento può avere tutto, soprattutto sotto alcune fasce di prezzo tipiche del mondo synth, quindi penso che il Grandmother offra tutto quello che mi aspetterei da questo tipo di synth se non di più!

I loved the idea of having access to the old modular circuits because let's face it a big Moog modular will only be a dream for most of us.

The one thing that struck me about the grandmother is the immediacy and playability of the synth. Everything feels like it's where it should be and the keybed is so very nice to play. Dare I say one of my favourites. The build quality is top notch and comparing it to my old Moog Rogue in a similar form factor it's like night and day. The Rogue is cheap and plastic whereas the Grandmother is heavy, solid and feels like no expense has been spared. Two criticisms on the build, I would have like to see bigger toggle switches. Not a big problem though. I would have also liked an IEC power supply as opposed to a power brick with IEC connection. Not a big problem but I'd prefer a universal option that are easy to come by.

In terms of sound this thing sounds HUGE!!! It's that classic Moog sound in the lows and can soar when it wants too all passed through a butter filter. I'm mainly using it for basses so I'm getting lots of dirty sequences and arpeggios from it. The mixer past 12 is just gritty deliciousness.

In terms of features It's got all the ingredients a mono synth should have and they've even thrown in a spring reverb. I'm not one for mental modulation so happy enough with the LFO. Sequencer is great, easy to program and 256 notes!

I bought this and a Prophet Rev 2 at the same time and have barely touched the prophet. I can just get where I want to be so quickly with the grandmother but I also feel like it has depths that are as yet unexplored.

For me it's just beautiful. My favourite Moog I've owned so far.
