Superb Cymbals
Mr Me 23.11.2021
I own the 16" and the 18" of these, and they're my most prized cymbals. I have plenty of other cymbals as well, and I love them all, but these two are SPECIAL!

The reason I love them so much, is because I play a lot with light rods to hold down the volume. Most cymbals need a fair bit of force before they open up, but these can be given a soft tap with a light rod and still produce a dark crash sound, rather than ringing like a gong like most cymbals do.

When you hit these cymbals softly, you get a gorgeous dark crash sound with a slow decay that feels very relaxed and pleasing to the ears. It's not suitable as an accent cymbal at the lowest volumes because of the slow decay, but it produces a beautiful atmosphere. Great for things like jazz, ballads, and slow funk.

When hitting them a bit harder they get brighter and decay faster of course. They're nice for moderately hard playing too, but it's the soft dynamics that really make them shine.

But that's not all! These cymbals aren't just great crashes, the 18" is also a FANTASTIC ultra light ride! I haven't found anything else that works as well as a ride when playing extremely quiet or with light rods. It has a very nice bright ride sound all over, you can ride it anywhere from the outer edge to the tip of the bell.

The sound of these cymbals is "clean" and perhaps a bit "hollow", for lack of better words. It's hard to describe sound, but the sound has sort of a hole in the middle. This is both for better and worse, since it makes them leave space for other instruments, but it also makes them sound a bit anonymous. The crash sound is beautiful and has great complexity, but not a lot of texture or character.

I do like to complement them with a couple other fine thin cymbals to get more texture and variation, but it is still these two that form the core of my cymbal kit. The 18" as a very crashable light ride, and the 16" as main crash in a minimal setup, secondary crash on the right when I add more cymbals.

As a curiousity, my particular 16" and 18" just happened to have EXACTLY the same undertones!!

This is weird and unusual to say the least. We drummers usually pick cymbals where the undertones differ and don't clash, so they blend together nicely. But with these two, the exact same undertones keep humming when I hit both of them.

I think that may contribute to the "hollow" feeling I get from them, since there's fewer undertones in flight during play, so to speak. There is a tonality shift between the cymbals in spite of this, since the 16" produces a brighter crash sound than the 18", but there is at the same time a droning monotony underneath it all. That may actually be the main reason I like to add another cymbal or two.

None of that is relevant to you though, since you're very unlikely to ever find two perfectly matched cymbals like that.

Sehr ausgewogenes Crash.
