Millenium DCH-SET01 Cable Hi- Hat
Paul330, 09.08.2013
Use:
This may appear a minor gripe (and it is only my personal opinion) but after days and hours of using and adjusting, this product I feel it is more useful for me, as a spare- or even a fixed High-Hat,because the lag in time for it to respond (given the type of cable mechanism it employs), renders it a little slower in performance when compared to the other Hi- Hat stands in my posession. Slower real time response, it may have for certain of my needs which I notice especially when performing detailed fast work on the Hi-Hat (where very fast close-open settings are needed) but it is still easily worth the money and this personal factor is only a minor "hindrance" considering its' many added /practice & performance enhancing benefits. I must say I have noticed that the heavier the Hi Hat cymbals are the faster the response from the cable becomes, so: that may be one way round the issue if it bothers you at all? -I may just be being very picky!

Cable length and fixing:

The cable is more than adequate for considerably large or small drum kits and the supplied clamp, is frankly a godsend because it will save you money and seat the product correctly on either stands or a rack system. The clamp is "geared" or toothed and you can alter its direction- turning either end in a circle allowing you to fix it to your kit at some strange angles which is handy for hard to reach spots. Because of the good cable length you can fairly easily get a nice pedal location too.

Build:
It is sturdy and reassuringly weighty, but the foot bass-plate had 3 sharp screw openings that made it frankly, a chore to fix and seat quickly to the pedal during assembly (because they made the screws sit away from the pedal underside that it had to connect with) and that may just be me on a bad day too. If this bothers you then bare in mind that this is the quality of finish you pay for at these amazing budget prices, therefore; it should not have you moaning or complaining unless you haven't shopped around -but this particular factor, once again, is a minor detail and it functions perfectly well otherwise (see my comments on use expectations though!).

Summary:
Despite the slightly slower response, when used with light hi hats on my own model-I would still recommend it as either a spare, or even a closed (X-Hat) or second Hi- Hat; I have changed my mind and would recommend it as a main Hi-Hat if you are not worried about stunningly lightning fast responses from the cable mechanism, its flexibility outweighs any initial concerns I had early on.
So; it is an amazing price when compared to similar products and should not be dismissed out of hand in the least. If you can afford the alternative high priced items go ahead but overall I am still very happy I bought it and find it a positive add on item to my drum kit playing and for the budget conscious it is outstanding. This latter point is easy to observe if you compare it with the price of most fixed X-hats. So give it a go unless you can pay the expensive prices for the other models.

You get what you pay for.
JakePlaysDrums, 02.10.2020
Would only recommend this for a 2nd hi-hat, instead of using to move your primary to an alternate position. Response is a little sluggish, took some getting used to (this might well be a feature of cable hats in general admittedly).

Unfortunately mine broke after about 2 months of owning, I don't consider myself especially heavy footed. Internal connector between cable and footplate snapped and the unit ceased working - what's more the design and location of issue made it impossible to self-repair without significant deconstruction - not a minor fault.

Thomann shipped a replacement immediately, but the issue was upsetting to experience on a near brand-new piece of kit. See how the replacement holds up.

Quite good for its use
Stride, 06.02.2019
This pedal is quite good but for particular uses only. Due to the lag of the cable it is not the ideal for fast playing however it feels quite sturdy and is great for a second hi-hat on the kit. it can also be used for smaller hi-hats such as the swiss hats from paiste. might not work so well on large heavy cymbals but the spring under the clutch will help for some extra lifting force. for small lighter hats i found it useful to eliminate the spring under the clutch as it made the pedal very resistant. a bit of a headache to assemble for the first time but results in a very sturdy and useful tool. I would have preferred if the clamp had wing nuts instead of hexagonal nuts as these can be a pain to tighten using the spanner provided. finishing is a bit poor but nothing one cant work with.

over all great pedal but has a few drawbacks. Definitely worth it for the price

For the money there is none better
James4797, 28.05.2014
I had read the previous reviews regarding it not being all that smooth before purchasing. I was also put off as I got a metal splinter screwing together the footplate. It was also noticeably stiff compared to my regular hi-hat stand. It requires a spring under the top cymbal to add additional force to aid the lift action of the hi-hat. However, after these initial thoughts, as the days have gone on, I realise that really I'm getting a cable hi-hat at under half the price of the others on the market. You can barely get a fixed remote hi-hat for this money. Even if you just have the advantage of boing able to close the hi-hat, having fixed it in a playable open position for when doing double bass stuff, this is a huge advantage. It also seemed to get looser with use, and now I am not noticing it being as tight and slow as it was.

I was also impressed with other things. The supplied clamp to hold it to a cymbal stand is probably the most substantial one I have ever seen, this alone is worth half the purchase price. It also has a clutch with rubber 'felts' which are far superior to the traditional felt ones. So, having lived with it (and considering I was tight and bought the cheapest one I could find) I am happy with this. Basically, for this amount of money, you have no options, and as long as you are not doing really intricate hi-hat work, for use as a second remote hat, it is great. My one wish (and this is true for all remote hats, not just this one) would be that the cable unscrewed from the pedal to aid transit.

Anyhow, if you want a remote hat for 50 quid, or even if you were going to buy one without a pedal, you may as well buy this one and have the advantage of being able to close it or alter its settings.
