We can do without...
The knob is nice to use but the knobs are much less. You have to be strong and the feeling is not that great.
As for the use with a sequencer like Cubase, I find that it is finally a little gadget when one is accustomed to all its keyboard shortcuts and the handling of the mouse. I thought leaving the mouse or mostly the keyboard and this is far from the case. So unless you are allergic to the keyboard-mouse combination, this product lacks interest.
Also suitable for use under Linux
With increasing experience, I was increasingly lacking an input device that makes the image-precise control of intersections as convenient as the forward and rewinding at different speeds.
In addition, I wanted as many keys as I could, not to have to use frequently used functions in the system "Eagle" on the normal keyboard and then have to fall down in the dive.
After Kdenlive itself fortunately various Jog Dials (multimedia controller) supports, especially the Contour products, I finally selected and ordered the ShuttlePRO v2.
Starting up with Linux was easy, since no special drivers are required, but Linux already works with devices similar to the USB standard profiles like the ShuttlePRO v2. Simply connect the ShuttlePRO v2 via USB, done.
What I miss then is a Contour application, with which you can also configure the ShuttlePRO v2 for Linux and in particular the KDE interface for any application. Contour delivers such an application unfortunately only for Windows and OS-X.
For this reason I give the features only three stars. Other companies are working on how to collaborate successfully with free software projects, thus opening up new customer circles.
But back to Kdenlive, which is the reason for my purchase: here I had to work with an additional udev rule in the system. This is because Kdenlive expects the ShuttlePro to still run under / dev / input / inputX under the rules of older Linux systems, but newer systems will work with / dev / input / eventX. But in Linux, it is fortunately easy to rework without having to touch application.
Since then, Kdenlive recognizes the ShuttlePRO v2 problem-free and I can use the 15 keys of the ShuttlePRO v2 in Kdenlive with Kdenlive functions. This works perfectly. Together with the inner rotary wheel for precise positioning and the rotating for the forward and rewinding at different speeds, I now have a convenient to use tool for convenient video editing.
Even if the ShuttlePRO v2 looks like a piece of pizza that has been stuck on the table, it makes a well-processed impression. Thanks to its six slip-resistant feet, the ShuttlePRO remains where it is; This is especially important in the zeal of the cutting battle. The size is just right for my medium sized hand, the buttons are easy to reach without straining the fingers. Contour has also thought of the handlebars, so that my left hand can relax on the multimedia controller. The detent of the inner rotary wheel is light, almost too light for my feeling. Since the latch positions are only every 30 °, exact movement in the video material is possible. This wide screen I personally like more than the narrow grid in mice with mouse wheel.
While the upper nine buttons can be labeled without problems thanks to the transparent buttons, I also wish that the wide buttons below the wheel. Here I find the design of the ShuttlePRO v2 inconsistent and improveable.
In conclusion, I am fully satisfied with the operation of the ShuttlePRO v2, since I like to give five stars. Because of the missing Linux software, I have to deduct two stars in terms of features; Thus "goes (halt) so".
With the processing of the device I am satisfied, however, speaks also the lower buttons for a better processing, therefore only four stars. Overall, I rate the ShuttlePRO v2 with four stars, because I am satisfied with the purchase and the use. But there is still air up.
