Great pedal, Crap FX!
Michaela C., 20.08.2015
I have used this live about 15 times in the 4 years I've had it. I practice with it at home also but it doesn't get heavy use. That said, I loved it for looping when using my Boss FS6 dual switcher but without the switcher you may as well just have a single track looper. For starters, if you want to switch to the 2nd track you need to hold down the right pedal for 2secs (sounds ok) but the same press has the function to stop the recording of the loop when you hit it once. The problem here is that it does not stop the loop when you PRESS the button but when you RELEASE the button. This creates terrible timing issues. Boss have given a way to program the pedal with a series of button pushes to simplify this process so it stops when the pedal is PRESSED but by simplifying it you take away the option to switch tracks (and YES that means a 1 track looper). It's not a problem if you have the external switch but if you don't, BEWARE! Its a feckin headache. On top of that the RC30 has started to malfunction thru the footswitch jack on the back so I cant even use it now. Even without the switch plugged in the RC30 is switching tracks, recording and turning loops on/off, Argh!!! It has a 5yr warranty but Thomann cant help as its outside of their 3yr warranty and Boss have been bouncing me from country to country because they say, as it was bought from Thomann they can't do anything. This was the only time in all the years I've dealt with Thomann that I've been unhappy. I rang them simply to find a contact number for a Boss representative that might be able to help with the problem and after the guy continuously told me that it was out of (Thomann) warranty (which I initially told him) he went to find a contact number for Boss and while I was holding someone else picked up the phone and when I asked where the original guy had gone he said he was busy with another call. WTF! I was simple passed off. Im a pleasant person and because of that he just swept me aside and hoped I would just go away, Ridiculous! It seems a good deal with the 5yr warranty but be careful. It was great in the beginning (except for the effects. The 5 effects are stupid. Coming from Boss you would expect something half decent) but it was only when it started to break down it got super annoying. Sorry Thomann but whoever was on your phones taking calls from Ireland on Thur 13th Aug 2015 between 10am - 2pm Needs a lesson in manners and how to work for such a great company!

Boss RC30
The Newcomer, 18.04.2019
A great addition to my musical journey and education! Only bad thing about it is that if you "double tap" the record button it automatically defaults to 1 of the 5 preset effects. This can be ok when playing live if you have it set on "tempo delay" as it may not be noticed but if you don't set it to anything it defaults to "Bend Down" (the 1st option) which sounds like an extreme slowing down of everything and this will absolutely ruin your live performance (I had some very quizzical looks thrown my way when it happened.....and it happened twice in that song). Would be better if they moved this "Effects" option to the second pedal (Right hand side). Apart from this I love it!!!

Versatile and addictive to create multiple experiences.
Magus, 30.01.2019
Used primarily to record melodic phrases or simple chords, then "play" over with base or experimental variations. Excellent as a method of self-teaching.

Any signal injected can be recorded on two stereo tracks. The pedal can be used for various purposes. As many as the imagination can achieve.

Versatile, with microphone connection, USB, can record from external source, can function as a sample reader, etc. Excellent stimulant for creative work.

Tas_Stef, 10.02.2019
What can I say about this legendary pedal? Great for studio, live and practise easy to use you can rec in minutes afterr opening. if you want a looper that does something more (rythm beats, double chanel recording, loop FXs, mic xlr) and will last propably for ever get this one.

Very good Loop station. Use it with electric and acoustic bass. But be ready to study manual first :)
Rhythm machine sounds primitive so it is fine as a practice metronome only,
And I do not like built in effects, they sound weird.

Big improvement on my RC-20
Steven7148, 02.12.2014
This is a very big improvement on my RC-20 which I have gigged with extensively over the last 10 years.
Of course its easy to see its gone a little more digital with 99 tracks to store your loops.
A welcome addition in the XLR mic input. The mic input on the RC-20 was terrible, but thankfully they have corrected that.
Having 2 tracks to record is another great addition if you gig playing full songs. Now you can record a percussion track on track one and record your verse chords on track 2. Meaning you can knock those off the verse chords when moving into a chorus, leaving the percussion track still playing.

There are endless possibilities for one-man bands which, when practiced correctly, will improve your playing and performances.

Exactly what i wanted.
ChristosV, 19.08.2018
I use this product to practise scales and its exactly what i needed, drum loops are helpful and i can set the volume independently and the best of all is that i can record two different tracks so i can do something like a verse chorus. In my opinion its worth the few more money over the Boss RC-3.

Absolutely love it
Larry Lurex, 01.02.2018
Being the only guitar in a three piece acoustic band (guitar - percussion - vocals) it has been a struggle for me keeping our sound full, combining playing both rythm and lead melodies. It was ok but it always felt like something was missing. RC-30 saved the day! Even we couldn't believe how different we sounded when we first used it. Amazing! In term of structure, the RC-30 feels really solid and sturdy, I hope it's going to last for a really long time. It needs some practice to get used to handling it and can be a little tricky but nothing that can't be worked out eventually. The sound fx seemed kinda cool and fun at first but they're extremely limited and I never bothered myself with them again after the first few tries. Great machine overall, thanks Boss.

Making Ed Sheeran sound great for years now!
Douggie, 28.04.2015
I bought this loop pedal and its incredible.and if you're looking for a great loop for live performances this is the right choice. Don't get me wrong you need to practice with this before performing live but once you get the hang of it this thing will be your best friend on stage and everybody who says it is useless live is just hasn't spent enough time with it and just don't see all the possibilities of the pedal and do not try hard enough. It takes some work but it works. if you want to see just how well this thing can be used live watch any Ed Sheeran youtube video with it!

Good, but needs practice.
Smog, 26.02.2015
Good pedal with plenty of options. Still can take a little getting used to ending loop cleanly as milliseconds off in a live situation can throw off an entire band. Practice lets you find that "bite" point and is necessary

Very useful, Boss RC-30 is perfect for everybody and for every situation. Practical and easy to use. It offers to you the opportunity to play with yourself and creat a sound from rhythm to riff or chords and melody, voice or what you prefer. Now i need it like oxygen

Very Good Bit of Kit
31.01.2016
I'd previously used an Akai Loop pedal....functionality was know where near as good as the Boss. Very easy to use, but with many functions. Instinctive controls make it possible to quickly record, overdub, save, undo...all the features needed. The onboard effects are not great but I don't need or want those anyway,

I play Irish jigs and reels on mandolin plus bluegrass banjo - and run a professional band with my partner who plays violin. I use the Boss pedal to lay down guitar loops to practice with - and intend to use it live to record guitar loops when we are playing as a duo so that I can play lead parts on mandolin and banjo - instead of having to provide back up guitar.

It destroys the clean sound. When you plug it in, your clean sound becomes way louder and a annoyingly crunchy.

A must for solo musicians
RonanM, 19.07.2014
Solo gigs can be tedious at times. You get on stage and to be quite honest unless you're playing covers and/or the audience are there to see you specifically you can have quite a tough time making an impact with just yourself and a guitar.

Here's where the Boss RC-30 arrives and saves the day! Seeing the look on peoples faces as 1 person suddenly become a guitarist, bassist, drummer, backing vocals etc.

So lets get down to the nitty gritty. Firstly, this pedal is solidly built and like most Boss pedals it's designed to take a a lot of abuse from "enthusiastic" musicians. On battery power it's able to go and keep going! You can get a power cable, but you can survive quite happily on batteries.

As for user friendliness it takes a bit of getting used to. Double-tapping the left pedal makes the built-in effects kick in. Quite good if you actually mean to do it, quite embarrassing if you don't. To be fair, after a little bit of time using it you do get used to all the features.

To be honest, this is a piece of kit that you will buy once. It's well worth the investment!

Love it but it's missing something
EliF, 06.01.2018
Long story short I love this looper, I use it all the time when performing live or even practicing/songwriting.
The onboard effects are okay, I only use the tempo delay.
An onboard tuner would be a great addition.

Not impressed
Boggs, 02.05.2016
Much prefer the TC electronic Ditto pedals, the preset FX are quite boring and tend to mangle the sound, I used it three or four gigs before selling it. The build quality is certainly excellent but other than that it leaves a lot to be desired. It's a very common and popular pedal but I don't really know why. It's not exactly cheap for wha tit is and though the interface can be controlled almost entirely through the pedal doing fade outs isn't nearly as easy as on the Ditto X3. Dunno, I'd suggest using one in person before just purchasing. Don't take my words at face value, definitely make sure it'll do what you want it to and get a practice in before buying.

shaung, 01.08.2018
Fantastic product for the price, very well built. Lots of storage space on it so you never have to worry about running out. You can even load rhythm tracks on to your loops, as well as download tracks from the internet to load on. A great looper pedal for intermediate players.

Great product!
Roddy J., 07.11.2013
This product is very easy to use and the manual is great. The sound quality is excellent, and this machine has proved to be very reliable. It has transformed our live performance; however, I shall be buying the recommended pedal next to make it easier to use on stage, as this will make switching/deleting tracks and control of effects much easier. Treat this like a musical instrument - practice with it and you will acheive great results!

Boss boss boss boss boss.....
Greasycheeks, 07.09.2018
Picked this up to have to fun while practising at home really, im using it with a bass and its really addictive! Since i got it ive been playing twice as much as normal. The build quality is second to none as with all boss pedales. Its really easy to use straight out of the Box but a little reading is required as a lot of the buttons have more than one function.
The beats and effects are a nice bonus and you can save hours of recordings/loops on the 99 channels.
For all the parents out there... my kids love playing with this! I ended up buying a mic for it as it has a dedicated mic in and they spend hours playing with it.. getting quite inventive with singing, beat boxing and evening sampling sounds through the mic....brilliant.

It is really built like a tank!
I use this to plug-in mic and acoustic guitar and I am satisfied of the recording result.
And it has 99 memories on it so you can store as many version you want.
