The dream of many guitarists will come true

Mr Hiwatt, 25.04.2012
For the first time, I've been playing high-gain amplifiers like the Hiwatt100, a Fender Deluxe Reverb, a MesaBoogie an Orange120, etc. for decades. I have been working with tube amplifiers for years, repairing and building them. Now what makes so someone with a DSP Vorstufe: Well, briefly said, I had already the Boss ME-70 before the Hiwatt100 in the employment. Only as a preamp and effects device. The often-quoted, simulated amp models sound just "wrong" in front of a good amplifier. Why should you make the top sound of such an amplifier unrecognizable by the artificial sound of a simulated preamplifier. For me, the ME-70 sounded after some work with the device already officially, especially easily tweaked Hiwatt sounds, I could thereby produce in manageable volume. Now to the new GT-100: The device is built very stably, which one already notes on the 8 KG weight. Finally, a suitable power supply is included. It is a good switching power supply with additional suppression reactors and ferrite core in the stable supply line. The power supply works without any perceptible audio interference - great.

The operation of the GT-100 is brilliantly solved. Either you create your own sounds in the professional way. For this purpose, a circuit diagram-like field is found in one of the two displays. There you can move the individual pre-stages, sound controls, effects, pedals, etc. any way. It is similar to the structure of a pedalboard pedalboard. There is a 2 channel construction - so you can conjure incredible things. It is possible to play the bass over the way A - eg clear and to play a full board from the frequency of the G string over channel B, the whole thing is done automatically without switching over. Admittedly this type of sound building requires basic knowledge. This has also been noticed in Boss and has "EZ Tone" a simple user interface to the desired sound generator attached. This is quite nicely solved, but I prefer the technical variant. This is the first time I have "recreated" my analog pedalboard. At the beginning, the CryBaby WahWah pedal model then two "warm overdrive" modules in series, then a Boss Compressor a Noisegate, a Chorus and an Echoblock, then a Reverbmodul and at the end at the external connection via Expression pedal a volume pedal. After a brief reconciliation, this resulted in an absolutely useful basic equipment from "clean" to "board", everything in it. Now you save this. The clou can be switched from the program mode to the manual mode at any time and has immediately connected every effects device with one of the 8 foot switches, so for most switching processes does not have to switch a complete patch. Just as I have always imagined - boss made it.

The quality of the effects is absolutely high quality. The overdrive models sound really good. You have to know how to adjust it, but it is the same with the ground floor players. I have compared with the GT-100 A / B comparisons with the beloved analog TubeScreamner. I hear and feel no differences when you set things well. The quality of the Ampmodelle is then reported by those who work with it. Due to the enormous increase in computing power, the GT-100 is no longer noticeable in the signal path through latency. It feels just as directly as if the cable is directly in the AMP. At the ME-70 I still have at least imagined I still feel delays. If something at the GT-100 digital sound, one is to fault it by wrong attitude itself.

It is noticeable, the device is built by guitarists for guitarists. It is a dream machine that has unimagined possibilities in itself. It will take months to reach the potential of the GT-100 at all. The menu is simply intuitive - no comparison to the GT-8 or GT-10.
The German manual is very well written and helps a correct and comprehensible further.

To the worksounds:
There is everything from genial to scrap there are 200 pre-programmed sounds and 200 user patches into which one can save his creations. The sounds can be saved via USB and also changed at the PC. The GT-100 can also play directly into the recording computer via USB.
With the GT-100 Boss is now again with the music and can, for example, with the HD500 of Line6 loosely keep up. There is a different philosophy behind Boss.

The part rocks.

Michael777, 28.03.2013
I use the Boss GT-100 with a Marshall JVM410H stack. So far, I have always had to use a whole armada of floor control. These I now all replaced by the GT-100. I connect the GT-100 with the four-cable method to the amp and use additionally MIDI to switch the channels of the amp directly with the GT-100. I do not need any more floorbusses and the footboard of the amp is no longer necessary.

Here is the exact explanation how the four-cable method must be connected:

Cable 1: Guitar - Input GT-100
Cable 2: GT-100 Effects Sends - Amp Input
Cable 3: Amp Effects Sends - GT-100 Effects Return
Kabe 4: GT-100 Output - Amp Effects Return

This allows you to run the amp's preamp through the GT-100 and use everything the GT-100 has to offer for signal processing. Among other things, the very good noise gate to clearly suppress the noise of the amp. With this configuration you have the best possibilities to make the sound optimal. The GT-100 is the best I have ever had as a floorboard in my hands. Ne real grenade!

To connect the GT-100 to the AMP with the four-cable method, you need quite a lot of cables. One from the board to the guitar, every good instrument cable does its duty. And then three cables from the GT-100 to the board, there comes a whole lot of cable. I then went on the search for a multicore cable, which fulfills the following criteria:
3 parallel connections via a cable. At both ends of each connection is a high-quality 6,3mm mono-jack plug. The cable length should be at least 10 meters, so that even on larger stages the cable can be installed without stumbling. The cable itself should be of very high quality. Unfortunately, I have found such a cable niergends.

Here is a tip to Thomann! Quote: Quote: Quote: Originally Posted by david View Post The GT-100 does not have such a cable. The guitarists and GT-100 users of this world will thank you.

I have now first built such a cable myself. Basis: Sommercable Quantum Highflex Multipair 4x2 cores and Neutrik NP2 C-BAG, prof. 6.3 mm monocable connector in black. I do not use a vein pair. But I would have preferred it, I could have bought such a cable ready .....

The operation of the GT-100 is already very well solved and very intuitive. Since the GT-100 also has a USB port, if the software from Roland for that, the complete configuration of the board and the signal flow could also be done with the PC. Since Roland must impeach !!

I am then times in the WEB on the search went and have actually found a super solution with which I can configure the GT-100 also completely over the PC. It is free software with the designation "GT-100 Fx FloorBoard". This works really great and saves really much time.

I hope I could help you with this report!
