Artec APW-7

170

Wah PedalThe company Artec is a relatively new star in the effects device scene and is characterized by solid quality and really interesting prices.

The APW-7 is a traditional wah, which is especially effective in the middle range, whereby the frequency range can be adjusted with a potentiometer.

Usual signs of wear at the potentiometer is no longer possible since Artec uses a special magnetic potentiometer.

With the "Wish" button, you can add resonances that produce new sounds (up to the whistle). With the Bass-Wah Selector, the frequency range is further reduced, so the pedal is also suitable for bass players. The APW-7 is a solid pedal with tradition, but also for experimenters.

  • Circuit with magnetic potentiometer thereby is totally silent and service-free operation is ensured
  • True bypass
  • Power supply optional: 409939 (not included)

A strirdy tank, reasonable sound, not so durable
Hågar 23.11.2018
After having to spray the pot of my Cry Baby a dozen times, I decided to go for this magnetic pot model of Artec. Now I regret selling the Dunlop Cry. First of all, the enclosure truly is a tank. However the feet are only glued on. So I replaced them with propper rubber feet, voiding my warranty. I was not to impressed with the depth and range of the wah, however it does give a usable sound. The wish knob is totaly unmusical.

The APW 7 lasted eight years of light studio usage, but died on me all of a sudden. No audio input. Since I know my electronics, I pulled it apart, only to find that its all unworkable SMD soldered parts, so after testing and a repair effort I gave up. I will replace it with the internal wah of my Zoom processor, which gives similar results.

I can only recommend it for guitarists who demand a magnetic pot (it does NOT crackle at all!) who also use it for their bass guitar, or as a backup wah.

Very noisy
thehomerecorder.com 10.08.2013
Short summary: Cheap, but not worth the money.

I had mine only for a short period of time before I had to send it back for repair to Thomann. It went absolutely quiet from one day to the other. After I got it repaired under warranty, my experience remained the same: sturdy metal housing with a knob under the pedal that makes you feel 'god, i just broke it' every time you step on it. However, the biggest issue was not this, but the sound quality. This pedal is extremely noisy and changes your tone only on a very limited spectrum. Once you turn the whish knob to a higher range to try and squeeze out a more tailored wah sound, it produces this high, artificial hiss that you cannot get rid of.

A Huge Letdown
Wallied 12.09.2013
I bought one of these in 2009 to cater to my beginner's wah needs. It has a range knob, which it should, and a "whish" knob, which I found to be mostly an annoyance. It brings a high sweeping sound to the wah effect, probably trying to replicate Rage Against The Machine style sound(which is made with a whammy, a whole different effect). There's also a bass switch, the purpose of which I can't remember.

The traditional wah sound, without the whish activated, and with a moderate range, is pretty good. The pedal is also pretty rigid, which promises great things. The bad news? Mine broke. I hadn't owned mine for more than a few weeks, when it just suddenly made a popping sound, and after that it's only made a weak and quiet sweeping sound when I try to use it.

So yeah, it's a decent pedal when it works, and without the whish effect.

Quirky but useful
TakaM 31.03.2021
It's a quirky wah with very uneven wah-curve, plus an ability to produce theremin-like whistling sound...

Not something you would buy as your main wah, but its quirkiness has proved useful in a couple of occasions, so it's kept in my "special effect pedals" drawer :-)
