Modern bluetooth midi adapter

blueveek, 03.05.2017
This is a decent and simple solution for bluetooth MIDI. It's been reliable so far, no connection drops.

It does one and only one thing really well: connect "modern" MIDI hardware to your bluetooth enabled devices with Bluetooth 4 or greater, with "Bluetooth Low Energy" support, which should include all modern Macs and iOS devices. I'm not sure about PC and Windows.

Why "modern" MIDI hardware? Well, it's not worth using this with standard "good old" MIDI (not via USB): it only provides *either* in or out connection, and not both at the same time. There's no MIDI thru port either. There's other products that provide both input and output over bluetooth, that don't require batteries to operate, can be powered via the MIDI ports themselves, and are cheaper.

What this puc really shines at is MIDI over USB: it's fully featured in this department, providing both MIDI in and out, and can even power your MIDI hardware if they consume reasonably low power. The manufacturer says "300 milliamps or less", but I've successfully powered a MIDI foot controller easily drawing 500 milliamps or more, all while using bluetooth at the same time. Your mileage may vary however.

Fulfills all my requirements

SigiFlam, 09.06.2016
I use the puc + to switch to a new song (= text on the iPad) automatically the right patch on my guitar effect device GR-55 to choose. For this, the appropriate MIDI send command is progranmmed for each song in my text program "OnSong" (bank change + program change) and sent via Bluetooth. The switching itself goes without a disturbing delay - this is rather uncritical with patch changes.
ATTENTION! In the manual is unfortunately not that you open the app app to puc + first and connect the puc + here with the iPad, otherwise the iPad does not find the device! And indeed, each time after switching the iPads off and on again (Bluetooth on the iPad must be switched on).
The batteries hold with me the indicated 8 hours.
The distance iPad to the puc + is with me 1-2 meters.
The optical LED display shows everything that is important in operation (Connected / Not connected / Battery Low / Bluetooth command received).
At the beginning, not all patch changes were performed reliably until I realized that my program "OnSong" inserted a space between the two commands in the MIDI string and that the puc + sometimes did not recognize the command. After removal of the blanks in all strings, this now works reliably. For sporadic problems with the puc + you should therefore also check the source program for the MIDI strings.
Other MIDI applications I have not tested so far.
The puc + does with me thus exactly what I bought it.
