Easy to use all the time!
Erky32 27.05.2017
Already use an AKG system for gigs, but was intrigued by the plug-and-play design of this system. Its brilliant, even round the house I use it - just plug one unit into any amp , and the other into any guitar and you're away. Its so easy just to swap from one rig or guitar to another, easier than a cable in my view!! I havent noticed any appreciable change in sound between ordinary cable & this radio so thats a plus. I've used it for several small gigs without issue - of course the freedom of being wireless goes without saying - but the added freedom this has to quickly switch guitars between songs is a bonus. Charging takes about 2hrs, but they last for more than a gig, usually around 5hrs. For quality I've deducted a mark because the first unit I returned because , altho they performed well, the leds didnt indicate as quoted. The replacements had a similar problem, but given the convenience of the unit I discussed and settled the issue with Thomann to mutual satisfaction. But I've had mine in continuous use now for around 2 months and they are great to use. Recommended.

It is not expensive - do not expect too much

This set never made it to a stage before being returned. I wanted a convenient radio link for an acoustic electric to be rid of the dangling cable. But first and foremost for me with ANY accessories, pedals, whatever, is sonic fidelity.

Like ALL radio systems the sound takes on a harder edge than a cable, perhaps due to buffers in the circuit - much like Boss FX pedals when in bypass mode. Piezo pickup equipped acoustic guitars already have a hard time sounding sweet and this radio just aggravates that problem. Not this radio in particular, I hasten to add, because I have A/B'd it with quite a few. But they are all the same.

However, there is another issue with these very convenient plug-in dongles. This is the second one I tried and it has the same problem as the first one. Because the dongle has more mass than a jack plug on a cable, it is susceptible to causing really nasty 'dirty connection' type noise periodically as the dongle jack rotates or moves in the jack socket.

It may well be that the jack socket Gretsch fitted has a very slightly larger diameter than all others, thus permitting movement that is sufficient to occasionally and momentarily break the circuit in the same way a dirty connection would.

I prefer to use a strap mounted transmitter with a normal jack plug.

They work quite well with a reasonable distance. However, sometimes there is the slightest of delays, almost not noticeable. If you are looking for absolute perfection, don't buy these.

Used without a hitch for over a year

I nearly didn't leave a review for these because I bought them ages ago - but thought it would be useful to someone to know that I've used these very frequently and they've been solid as. Not one single crackle, jitter, stumble, shut down or cut out. I was worried about the build quality thinking I'd best carry a spare jack (and I still do) but only needed to use it twice because I wasn't keeping track of the battery. Whilst 5 hours or whatever it is is great - don't do what I do and add your stage times together over a few gigs if you forget to turn them off during your breaks haha. I'd invest in a small USB power bank to use as a backup that can be ran to a charge cable and stored in your pocket. I've considered even velcroing one to the inside of my acoustic - but I'd probably forget to charge that too!
The good thing about these is that both transmitter and receiver are USB and quite standard cables so they can be sourced in a venue unlike some 9v equivalent systems.
