If you are looking to add some overdrive to your sound, but are afraid of muddying it up, this is the overdrive for you, plain and simple.
Dial it in with all knobs at 12 o'clock and there is a boost that is incredibly transparent, and yet it seems to bring out all that goodness from the guitar, tonewise. Its low-gain characteristic means the overdriven tone is smooth, warm, not gritty or muddy. If I need more gain, I turn the gain knob up and the output knob down, and you never ever get that mid-hump from most overdrives that color your tone.
In about 10 mins I was already hooking up a combo with a line in to play over some Black Keys tunes with my Tele. Forget other overdrives if what you are looking for is low-gain and no tone colouring.

Pleasant twist between crunch and hi-gain
The Messner sounds great! A really warm tore, which can be controlled in the open and very dynamic. In the closed position is somewhat pre-compressed and the strain already starts even with quieter play like palm-mutepickings. Makes sense and animal fun. It's like a low-gain tweeter and nothing for people who want an all-rounder or even a metal-twister. A proud price for this one ... But if you have the attitude that woolly laying eggs are not the true, the Messner will find a really outstanding distortion.
