I was loving them until they broke after about 6 hours.
I got these so I could bring down the volume during band practise. They worked an absolute treat for that purpose. OK, they take a little while to get used to as compared to a regular stick (now just the balance and weight, but also the diameter of the handle).
And - again, obviously enough - the sound itself is different to a stick. In some cases that might be what you actually want, so that's neither good or bad, but a matter of taste.
The main thing for me, like I say, was bringing down volume. I am not a mad basher on the drums, but I am somewhat of a beginner so for some faster passages of play I found it hard to bring my volume under control and hence the need for these sticks.
However ... back to my title for this review. Honestly, it was only after 3 or 4 practise sessions, so about 6 hours continuous drumming, that these guys gave up on me.
In the picture there's a big rubber bracing about 5/6ths of the way up the stick and right in behind that bracing is where the stick broke in half and was made completely useless.
I asked my drum teacher if my technique could have been to blame and he said that my technique was fine, so I just think these things have to have a special technique deployed to use them, or they are just not that hard-wearing, or maybe I just got a bum set.
But I will *not* be buying again. I have some other MUCH CHEAPER rutes that I bought years ago that are a bit tattered but still doing fine.
These wands are nicely weighted and pack a slighter bigger punch than your normal rutes wand. I really like them because they represent a real alternative to stick playing but with significantly reduced volume but retaining the feel.
