An exchange bath of the hammers

09.04.2016
There were some good reasons for me to get these headphones: the S-Logic technology, which promises better spatial perception, the ULE technology with its metal shielding, and above all, I was looking for a closed headphone for my home recording studio Radio broadcasts. So no music studio.

Of course, I had read some reviews before buying, and at least at least the precursors, the Pro 750, actually did not look so good. But analyzes of frequency sequences, impedance and what I do not know everything, have never really interested me. A headset must sound good for me, banal: without falsifying the music strongly, deliver a clear stage illustration, and it should be comfortable.

Well, all points do not apply to me on the Pro 750i, which is why I will send the headphone also back.

I am not a sound engineer, which could justify the sound evaluation with the corresponding compartment covers, and I am of course aware that my opinion, how often with headphone evaluations, is very subjective and only partially generalizable. Above all, with regard to wear comfort. The contact pressure is so strong, that the ear cushions with me unpleasantly on the jawbone press. Others find these headphones comfortable - so different are the sensations.

The Pro 750i is otherwise, but first-class processing, the design I like synonymous, what accessories is supplied, is exemplary, and I always welcome it, if one can replace the cables themselves with a headphone.

For me, the Pro 750i sounds but, and I agree with a review, which I read, rather "unnatural", both in the sound as well as the stage illustration. I find him somewhat reserved, sometimes dull, but sometimes even overpriced. In all cases, however, I miss a certain brilliance.

Voices sometimes distort easily or sometimes sound nasal, sometimes it sounds super, and with other pieces of music a bit hollow. I have never been concerned with a headphone, which has thrown me so in an alternating bath of the hearing, like the Pro 750i.

At the beginning, I even thought the copy I got was broken because everything sounded huge. Until I finally came behind, that I had the cable not properly screwed into the auricle. When assembling, please make sure that the connection is set correctly!

Basically I can not imagine with the Pro 750i that he is suitable for professional use in the recording studio. However, it could work perfectly for mobile or hi-fi systems.

I do not know if the headphone needs to be played for a long time in order to find its true sound quality, but after about 50 hours of playing time, the patience left me.

If you are interested in the Pro 750i, maybe try the Ultrasone Performance 880. He plays in the same prize league, and I find it, despite his slight bass boost, more rounded from the sound. Unfortunately I had personally with the model again the same problem with the for me too strong pressure of the ear pads. Otherwise, I would have decided for the 880s.

I also work with these headphones: Sennheiser HD 800, Beyerdynamic DT880 and use a Grado RS2e as well as the Bowers & Wilkins P5 Series 2 to make certain sound situations relative.

The Pro 750i was tested on the headphone amplifier Violectric HPA V200 by Lake People as well as on the Crimson SPL audio interface.

Conclusion: The Ultrasone Pro 750i is a first-class processed headphones with a lot of accessories, which has sounded me but not convinced. If you are interested in the Pro 750i, maybe try the Ultrasone Performance 880. He plays in the same prize league, and I find it, despite his slight bass boost, more rounded from the sound.
