small but nice!

26.04.2016
The PO-28 is a small wonder box for its size and price, but you can not expect too much.

+ Great lead sounds
+ Live quasi 3 Channel available
+ Compact
+ Relatively cheap
+ Can be synchronized with other devices

- only battery operation possible
- no MIDI
- no export or similar for songs possible
- limited to Dorian Bebop
- quite meaningless display
- no (cheap) case available

I bought with the PO-28 together with the PO-20, as I had the chiptune-like sounds very much.

The PO-28 "Robot" definitely has wonderful lead-sounds at the start. Here, you can choose between 8 different waveforms, 7 of which are available in a low and high range. In addition to a filter you can also set an auto-vibrato and has a button for Glissando. One is limited by the notes, since only the Dorian Bebop can be used to select scale notes (C major + G #).

In addition, the PO-28 offers another channel with a mini drum kit. That is, in each of the 16 patterns you can put a synth + drums and live over it still live. You can also grab a little in the effect box for filters and the like. In my opinion, however, this has been considerably restricted by the fact that the effects for the current step are memorized and can not be reversed so easily, even if a chain of patterns plays. In other words, they are rather inflexible for live use, and are more suitable for incorporating them into a pattern. This is the PO-20 in my opinion better solved.

For interplay with other devices, the POs have an input and output. Via the input, the tempo can be synchronized and the input signal can be forwarded. Here, a technique is used which is also used, for example, in some Korg products. A clock signal is placed on one channel and the correct audio signal on the other. Since here the different sync modes are not in the manual (!) And I was able to find out only after contact with the support, I bet her here times:
Fashion ??? Input ??? output
SY0 ??? Stereo ??? stereo
SY1 ??? Stereo ??? Mono / sync
SY2 ??? Sync ??? stereo
SY3 ??? Sync ??? Mono / sync
SY4 ??? Mono / sync ??? stereo
SY5 ??? Mono / sync ??? Mono / sync

An obvious disadvantage is the "nudity" of the device. You can buy a silicone case for currently 39¤, which is somehow overpriced. Others have already reported corrosion of the switches. I can not confirm this, but it would be possible to do it over time. In addition you have to take care with the AAA batteries. I had already a few, which sat quite loosely and the device so intermittently easy went out, not very pleasant. At least they seem to last a long time. The fold-out stand sits by the way quite loosely and can be easily removed, but also just as easily lost;)

In my opinion, there is also a possibility to save the pattern, via USB or microSD slot or something. This limits the PO devices (for me, at least) to an application for home or on the road to jam, but a live set or pronounced studio work is difficult due to the limited memory (16 16-step patterns). Teenage Engineering sees these technical limitations supposedly as a promotion of creativity (on the website I find incidentally for more uptempo models print patterns to the pattern). This can be seen already and I do not find it really bad drawbacks, but these restrictions should be simply to be not disappointed. I would have just wanted that in the development more attention to such practical details is laid as snieke displays and alarm clock functions;) Then I would have nothing at the price to complain.

This is not (just) a toy!

16.01.2017
A sound that sends serious, possibilities certainly limited but not so much saw the price and size of the machine, an extra design ... From the ball!

Most:
- A TRUE sound that types
- 8-bit sounds more real than nature
- Possibility to program and save patterns (but few)
- transportable in the pocket (but person I prefer to avoid)
- Design at the top
- Play live HYPER fun! (But quickly redundant)
- Really good quality / price ratio! (But when we have one, we want another quickly and I fear that eventually the collection costs me more expensive than the OP-1)
- Works on battery, and the battery wears very little.
- Accessories are not essential.

The lessers:
- 3.5mm jack output (but good, given the size of the beast ...)
- Small touches (it must not be obvious for the big hands but for me it goes)
- Programming of limited patterns
- Fragility of the assembly which makes flipper
- nice to complete his collec of machines or just for fun but we can quickly turn in circles to use only this machine.

Personally I really enjoy with and for the price I recommend it without hesitation.
