The best multi effects unit for the price
Tony5219, 10.02.2015
I have been using multi effect units for as long as I can remember, and have used just about all from the major manufacturers, Alesis, Boss, Digitech, Korg, Line 6, Vox, TC Helicon (as opposed to TC Electronic), Zoom, and more. I've had top of the range from most of them including the Pod HD and the Boss GT10, (not the 100). This beats them all in one major area as far as I'm concerned, and that is the overdrive sound. This pedal is a keeper!
I should say I have also kept the Pod HD500 which is useful for certain gigs direct through a PA system. However it is hard work getting a decent sound with the Pod when using a valve amp (amp modelling off of course). With the Nova system it's simple, plug in, a couple of tweaks to suit whatever guitar you're using and you're away.
There are a couple of tips that I would like to pass on, there is no bypass so, if you have, or can get hold of a bypass pedal, (preferably dual bypass). Set the input gain to unity on the Nova, (using setting F9-3 with the boost on) so that your natural guitar sound and the sound through the unit are the same. I would recommend this procedure with any multieffect unit, it's surprising how much some of them colour the guitar sound, and how much tone can be lost, this is one of the main reasons why I've been through so many multi FX units, buying from the internet you only have other peoples reviews to go by. Friends have let me borrow gear, (and set them up for them), which has also been very helpful over the years. Unfortunately, only very rarely do you get an unbiased review or You Tube clip, on the internet, you have to try things out for yourself. The Nova system is, quite simply the best out there (for me).
The distortion and overdrive for Rock and Blues are brilliant quality, If you're into Heavy Metal, Zoom or Line 6 would probably be more your bag. The delays and reverbs are pristine (if you want them to be, or as analogue as you like if that's what you prefer), the modulations are good but they do engender a little volume loss. I'm not a chorus fan, I prefer a subtle pitch shift effect which the Nova does perfectly.
The boost function is very useful (I set this at about 5db). The G switch is also to be recommended as the patch switching on such a small, (comparatively) unit could be considered a bit limiting.
All in all, I thoroughly recommend the Nova system.

Still going strong after 8 years! And still as good tonally as anything new on the market.
King B1, 22.04.2018
So i bought the TC Nova System from the lovely people at Thomann 8 years back (my first order!), on the recommendation of another guitar player. The idea was to help simplfy my live setup and get a more consistant sound fed to the PA; paying particular attention to the elimination of significant jumps in volume when changing/adding additional gain/boost/modulation. Playing live every weekend and micing everything through the PA meant this would really help with the overall mix quality and in fairness the board was starting to blossom out of control.

This was without doubt one of the best purchase decisions ive made and i consider myself quite a discerning purveyor of gear, who's bursts of GAS are focussed and practicle...... mostly....... i tell myself

Studio Quality Effects
Consistancy of sound
Superb straight into the front of any pedal platform amp
Excellent in the loop if thats your bag for clarity on the back end
Analogue gain structure (OD/Dirt)
Built like a tank
No Active parmeter dials during standard operation that can be knocked or moved
All in one unit so additional power supplies or cables to fart around with

A touch tall for some pedal cases
Mains power only
Lack of built in expression pedal
Channel changing without a G3 extension pedal is awkward

To sumarise; i have owned a number of mulit effects units over the years including Line 6, Zoom Digitech, Yamaha etc and im never happy with them for more than a few months (apart from the Zoom Multistomp!). I always find myself going back to individual pedals of quality and character; the exception is the Nova System.
