They don't come any better than this!
Zak K., 08.02.2015
The great thing about a naturally occurring reverb or a good powered spring reverb on an amp is that it doesn't mess with your original tone, but adds a moist dimension so your notes aren't too dry. As I understand it, reverb is not supposed to color the tone or signal, but add that something extra to what is already there. You're not supposed to be overly conscious of its existence, but miss it when it's gone.

Apparently, even with the technology we have today, taking the original signal and emulating natural-sounding reverb (be it natural room or powered spring) and reinserting it into a the same signal path without messing with the original sound is difficult to accomplish. I've owned and tested dozens of reverb pedals and rack processing units, running them through either the back-panel effects loop or placing them at the end of a pedal chain. When it comes to reverb pedals, most of them affect the tone or volume in some way and even if it's barely noticeable, there is usually some signal loss or distortion.

The worst thing about this subtle loss/distortion is that it adversely impacts your playing in the long run, even if you don't notice it at first. If you don't have that direct response and immediate presence, if your dynamics are limited even in the slightest, if your tone is changed, it will affect your playing. If the reverb does not have high enough resolution, it's like the sonic equivalent of seeing the pixels on a digital picture -- you become aware that it's just a digital emulation and not the real thing, which kills your appreciation and inspiration!

All this to say, I was really surprised at what the Mini Hall of Fame managed to accomplish. It is 100% a reverb-only pedal, it does not compress your signal in order to fit in the reverb, but somehow adds another layer to your sound, an extra dimension! The factory preset was natural enough, so good I haven't even bothered to pull out the editor and upload a different toneprint! And all that magic comes in such a small little package--a good thing when it comes to pedals and traveling musicians! Top score from me!

AMAZING reverb pedal
26.06.2014
The TC Electronics HOF mini reverb was my first pedal that supported the TonePrint functionality that we have all heard so much about. I have been using the older TC Hall of Fame reverb for many years and was very curious about this new product that is significantly simplified and yet contains all the functionality of its bigger brother.

The effect is housed in a small 1590 size box that fits wonderfully on all pedal boards. There are input/output sockets and a power socket that requires 9v from an external power supply (not included). The pedal can not be run off of battery power but works perfectly with all Boss, T-Rex, Voodoo Labs etc style supplies. The pedal has one knob for level of reverb effect and a very smooth true-bypass foot-switch.

The reverb comes with TC's famous and wonderful Hall reverb but the real genius lies in with the TonePrint. Once a user downloads the free app to a smart phone or computer, you have access to hundreds of different reverbs - both created by TC and the many artists that endorse them. Within seconds, you can beam any reverb you want to the pedal and have access to those sounds. It is amazingly easy, super flexible and frankly amazing.

My favorites are the TC plate reverb that is a stock function on the larger Hall of Fame, a "Beautiful Reverb" and "Spring Onions" artist toneprint. The Steve Vai reverb toneprints are also pretty amazing.

If you only need one kind of reverb per song, it is so easy to change setting using TonePrint that I would recommend this over the big brother. However, if you use multiple reverbs per song, then the Hall of Fame is more appropriate.

BIG UPS to TC for creating such an incredible little reverb in such a small package. Highly recommended.
