Never heard about high impedance headphones? May be not, because they often cost too much and are not normally suited for small, battery operated portable equipment, but a higher impedance can be useful in some setups. The HD-660 are the only 150 Ohm headphones I have found at this price. The saving against other similar products was suspect, but the generally positive reviews that guided me to the purchase were right: the HD-660 are a very good product even without considering their price.
I like: - Sound. They sound very good after some days of use at moderate volume. Wait before comparing them with other products that sound good out of the box. It's still a "warm" sound, and it does not suit everyone; - Comfort. I can wear them for hours, and it is also possible to use the DT770 bigger ear pads; - Efficient multi headphone setup. These headphones work well if you use a splitter to attach two of them to the same amplifier output: generally, not much loss of volume and no reduced sound quality, thanks to their higher impedance; - Isolation from outside noise; - The metallic headband makes them appear solidly built; - Headband pad easy to substitute.
I don't like: - Coiled cord, not detachable: it adds weight and encumbrance to the headphones; - Over each loudspeaker there is a tiny wire you should be aware of to avoid damage; - High frequencies not always well controlled.
Other products I know about: - If you like a more balanced sound, with an "on the go" attitude, consider the HD-685; - If you like a more balanced sound, and don?t need isolation from outside noise, consider the HD-681 Evo.
I was looking for a set of headphones that provided good insulation for when tracking in the studio. There headphones are quite comfortable and do retain the sound and prevent the microphones from picking up the click track or the backing track. You would probably need a headphone extension cable to anele the user more freedom.
Now in terms of sounds don't expect to be amazed. As with many headphones at this price range they have a smile EQ added to them (Bass and High freq. are exaggerated, and the mids are cut). This means that they sound good, but there NOT flat response headphones you could do critical listening or mixing on them.
Overall I'm quite happy with the product as they work fine as tracking headphones!
