Exeptionally great guitar
Sk8guy, 17.06.2020
I have the «real deal» Ernie Ball Musicman L3 HH guitar, which is just a «beast» - can do everything I want and need regarding, well, everything!!

My dad have been playing guitar for his whole life, and is a typical strat-guy,and has a custum buildt fender strat. When I got my L3, he was absolutly amazed by how incredible the L3 was - both sound and of course the well known exeptionally great neckfeel that musicman guitars have. He immidiatly said: I should’ve had a guitar like that myself. He is not one of those «if you talk the talk, you walk the walk» guys, so I thought - why not get him a «luke» for his 70th birthday coming up!

The L3 is of course a very costly guitar, and is out of the picture for a birthdaygift,so I immideatly thought about the Sterling Luke (which actually was the one I intended to buy for my self, but due to no sterlings available at the time of purchase,I went for the L3).

Well, the Sterling has arrived and I am stunned!! I’ve read great reviews of this guitar compared to the L3,but when I got it - it was even better!! It feels and plays more or less exactly as the L3!!! If I were to buy my L3 at this point,I would have chosen the Sterling Luke instead - because of the price of course (the L3 is about 2,5 times more costly).

Of course the L3 is a significantly better guitar overall, but mainly the pickups - they have higher output, and the output is more even when changing pickup-combination with the selector (the sterling has quite a substantial lower output in position 2 and 4 than 1,3 and 5). That said, the pickups on the Sterling sounds somewhat «thinner» than the L3,but this can easily be fixed by the eq on the amp,as the overall clarity of the Sterling pickups is great!

Only reason I give 4 starts on the sound,is that the L3 would get 5 stars, and the Sterling can not fully compete with that.

This guitar can actually do it all, rock, blues, metal, «acoustic»,jazz - you name it! This is of course well known if you know who Steve Lukather from Toto is - he plays it all, and this guitar is afterall basically his guitar!

Regarding my dads love for fender strats, you even get quite close to the real strat-sound that everyone is familiar with!

Pros: great feel, does «everything» regarding sounds and styles, good tuners
Cons: nothing worth mentioning

Overall - DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS GUITAR - IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!
