Customer review: Stairville DMX Invader 2420 MK2

27.05.2015
I purchased one of these for an installation job. The particular application was to illuminate a display by controlling a set of 20 LED PARs with just a handful of scenes programmed to cross-fade slowly in a continuous loop.

The controller is designed to work with fixtures having up to 24 channels with fixed DMX addressing, i.e. at intervals of 24. This means the set of 20 LEDs I was using didn't leave any scope for expansion even though these particular fixtures occupied only seven channels each.

Programming of scenes was fairly straightforward and I achieved the desired results even though configuring fade-times was slightly confusing; there being different ways of achieving that: 'internal' and 'external' modes. I tried programming the scenes into a chase but found the best results for my application was to use auto scene recall without bothering with chases. As for programming 'cues'...didn't even attempt that!

Anybody who has had even moderate experience of programming for intelligent fixtures using the more basic Stairville products should have no problem adapting to the much more capable Invader 2420 MK2.

Sound technicians at the point of light, if that goes well?

Sören S., 17.03.2016
With the Invader in any case.
I have otherwise rather shows with normal standard consoles with 24 channels driven. For a few theater chairs and possibly two groups LED PAR cans at various comedy events so far, however, the demands of the artists and organizers are higher and at the latest with moving light the pure fader sounds is then more than insufficient.
So the TonLichttechniker in Personalunion needs an easy-to-use desk, which is also understandable in handling and programming, but the cash is not too badly stressed.
A controller for under 200 EUR was the first attempt.
I can not use the crate until today.
From the lack of fine pan and tilt rotation, the Pan and Tilt can also be run over 2 sides fader attachments with more than 8 addresses on the device is rather a annoying fumbling.
So keep searching.
Then I noticed the invader ...
Amazingly fast the equipment and also the first programming steps went by hand.
I felt the light programming the first time something like fun at the Knöppe press and fader slide!
Everything much easier and better than with such smaller LED or moving head controllers for under 200 EUR!
Admittedly, everything is not going to happen. There are a few possibilities of large official lighting constellations, but they also like to cost the triple up. Second hand...
While I have already regretted buying a smaller and cheaper controller, I am more than satisfied with my requirements with the Invader.
And when writing these lines, I feel smiling anticipation of the show to be programmed tonight.
If my sound engineers know this ...
