Smooth and musical
First used the SSL XR727 Stereo EQ together with my SSL Matrix Console mainly as a master EQ. Soon I found out it is great to track with - even my software synths now got life.
The sound is smooth and musical. Almost regardless how it is set it sounds good - just a matter of taste. The mid (2-3k) that normally get harsh with many EQs is the opposite with this model - gives a smooth mid and makes the sound stand out of the speakers. The perfect phase makes it sound broad. It's absolutely playing in the same leuge as GML that by many is coinciderd as THE EQ.
Presets can not be stored like in digital devices. Would be great with digital controlled features like in Moog Voyager, that is 100% analog as well, to store presets in a similar way. Anyhow, it has SSL Total Recall by saving the settings and then guided by diodes turn the knobs to saved position.
The SSL XR727 Stereo EQ is a no brainier to understand, straight forward.
I am greatly impressed by the sound quality of this EQ. It is now my favorite device of all my outboards and therefore it's a pleasure to recommend it to anyone looking for a serious good EQ.
