Very good universal blades
As the owner of a Selmer Super Action II alto saxophone, I was very curious when I came across these sheets when surfing. One question stood for me immediately in the room: How would the Selmer "tricolor" of saxophone, S80C ** mouthpiece and the leaves work? Will the leaves perfect the famous reference sound that Selmer writes on the flag? And how do they compare to the blue vandors, which are my favorite favorites so far?
Packaging and presentation Selmer is able to design products. The six tubes are delivered in a beautiful black plastic case, but I have a little bit to complain about. The carriage, which carries the pipe leaves, was at the beginning swayed and had to be brought back into its original rail by gently pressing the case. After that I had problem-free access to the unpacked sheets.
Sound and playability But enough of foreplay, now comes the crucial part. I started playing, first a chromatic scale, to get a rough impression .. And I was not disappointed. The leaves speak super, the tone is perfectly blanched, not too soft and not too sharp. Deep sounds are almost as easy to play as those at the top end of the range. The sound is voluminous and warm, you can play the notes precisely without having to exert too much effort. My subsequent small test course included pieces from the classic, jazz and the standard repertoire for alto saxophones. And in my opinion, the leaves have done well to very good in all areas.
Conclusion and final words Let us take the questions from the introduction. Yes, the tricolor works perfectly. Yes, a typical (reference) sound is produced for a saxophone. These leaves are, in my opinion, excellent universal sheets, and I see their ideal field of application, for example, in concerts that cover many different genres. For pure jazz or classic sheets, you should look at the V16 or the blue Vandoren.
