R
Sandberg California II TM4 Ida Nielsen - discreet signature good value bass.
Rasmussen 01.06.2021
The TM4 Ida Nielsen signature is a distinctive, great looking, well sounding, easy playable pro instrument, priced somewhat above the competitors.

If you are an Ida Nielsen fan, then there is nothing surprising to the instrument. If you're not, then just look at this as a pro instrument. Note though, it is not a heavy rock bass guitar.

It is slightly smaller than the average performance/jazz bass and weight is a little less. It comes with a (fine) gig bag, but trying to find a case that really fits is difficult, as the bass is - as mentioned - a bit smaller and will rattle somewhat around in the average bass case (J/P-case or otherwise) and will need some additional support.

The frets are of the flat type, which is great but requires some getting used to, if you normally are using jumbo-frets (i.e. similar to a Fender Jazz bass).

The bass is more expensive than other similar Sandberg basses and also more expensive than the competitors like Fender, Lakland, MusicMan, ESP or LTD (and no case included). However, if you compare this instrument (priced at approx. EUR 2.300) to Fender Custom Shop basses at EUR 4.000 plus, then it is a bargain even though there is no case included (approx. EUR 150).

I recommend the instrument, if you have the money for it, but do consider alternatives (i.e. LTD) if you will not spend such an amount of money.
