Super Drum machine

13.02.2017
I was looking for an affordable drum machine to replace my broken Roland TR-808 that I had for sometime and my difficult to program Alesis SR-16. I bought the Roland TR-8 because it's a combination of most historic idiosyncratic sounds into one box.
Having it now for four years and still happy as ever I feel good talking about it.
Very good quality piece of hardware, easy to use, affordable and even good looking in any set-up. Oh, don't forget that deep booming bass sound, the delay and reverb that can sent you into another world of music. Hmmmmm!!!!
Now I'm having it in my recording studio as my main drum machine and once in a while, I use it to jamm with friends on many music genres. The sound quality is realy good sounding, no plastic sound when playing live in live mode in a band or dj set up. I thing that its worth the money, and everybody looking for a straightforward serious drum machine, go for the Roland TR-8, you won't be dissapointed.

Outstanding piece of equipement

Marek Jakub, 25.06.2016
The digital versus analog debate has turned in favour of digital thanks to this product. As a analog sound believer, had mixed feelings about purchasing this one. But as you noticed from the headline, it turned all my uncertainties away. For drum sounds I always used either samples or synthesizers such as Korg Volca series, which offers the analogue sound for a reasonable price. Even though TR8 is not an analogue, it does provide a very nice and deep sound. Would I choose it over the whole Volca Beats/Keys/Bass series? Definitely yes! TR8 has got all the drums you need to produce any type of electronic music followed by very useful, powerful and intuitive effects such as scatter, wich make it an absoute fun to play with in live situation, but also has usb connectivity that allows you to record all individual drums on separate tracks. This really helps if you want to make your mixes sound professional. Control over each part of drums in a mix is crucial.
There is only one thing I would add to it, and that is: motion sequence recording and amp settings memory. But even though those functions are abscent in the normal mode, it is actually possible to record effects motion via usb mode!
Absolutely the best drum machine for any electronica, especially with the expansion pack. Would recomend it to any classic synth drum enthusiast. Well done Roland! Pushed Korg's Volca series down to toy shelf!
